Default Sail and Sign Question

I can't believe that I don't know the answer to this one, but I don't...

If you wish to put a cash deposit down for the sail and sign, how much do they require for a 5 day cruise? We have several newbies in our September group cruise, and they were asking. (I've always just used my credit card and not worried about it...)

This is from the Carnival web site. Doesn't matter whether it is cash or credit card, the amount is the same.

The following dollar amounts, per guest, are used as a deposit when the Sail & Sign Account is opened:
2-4 day cruises: $100 deposit pp
5-8 day cruises: $200 deposit pp
9 + day cruises: $350 deposit pp

I thought I read somewhere here once, where even though you have a cash deposit (of 300.00) , and even though you haven't exceeded that amount that your sail and sigh account tends to get frozen (is that the right word?) once you've used a certain amount (lets say 100.00.) So even though you still have 200 dollars of untouched money, when they run your card it shows up as funds not available and you tend to get turned down.

Someone please correct me if Im wrong.

I did the cash deal on my first Carnival cruise and it was clear for the entire cruise and I was frugal with it.

Cash is actually a good way to go because you can control the spending more. We did the Elation and we had to put $200 on it and when you get close they will let you know. Also usually you get a statement nightly in the cabin and the purser desk can give you balance also

Thanks for the information, everybody. I have passed it along to my group. We are now 8 weeks out and they're all getting excited.
