Default Time Zone Cruise Ship Uses

I was wondering what time zone cruise ships use? Example: If we leave out of port canaveral EST and do the Western Carribean, what time zone do they use for the port of calls. The reason I ask is for knowing what time do get back to ship from shore excursions. I'm sorry this is a dumb question but don't want to be left behind.

You always go by "ship time" which is basically whatever time zone the ship leaves from. So if it's Canaveral, it's Eastern time. Or Galveston it's Central time.

It's not a dumb question at all

The ship usually holds to the time of its home port unless the time diference is really extreme.

I have never had a cruise where the ship stayed on the home port time. Each ship changed time according to the time zone we were cruising in.

The last cruise I took on the Conquest in 2006, we changed time 4 different times. Central daylight to central to eastern back to central.

I think that's why they quit changing time. It got too confusing for the passengers, and too many of them missed the ship! Every cruise I've done in the last few years, except one that I remember, has stayed on the home port time.

Scot,

The important thing is the ship will let you know what time zone you are on. If you are not sure - ask. But unless you are trying to arrange meeting someone you should be able to go with the flow.

The ship always tells you to NEVER ask someone ashore what time it is,,,but to look at your own watch, which is supposed to stay on ships time. I think too many folks looked at the big clock at Carlos & Charlies, then had a really great view of their ship as it sailed away from the pier.

On our Panama Canal Cruise 06 ( Van to FLL) the timezone changed every few days as we travelled south. Once we left Panama the time was set to EST or FLL time.

On our West/East in Jan 08 the tome was not changed at all.
