Default Mobile Port

I have never gone out of the Mobile port before, but now that the Fantasy is there, I guess I will be.

Has anyone recently gone through Mobile? How long were the lines? Would it be better to try to get there before or after the buses bring people over from NO? How are they about checking bags for liquor? How is traffic around the port?

Thank you in advance for your time in looking at this and maybe answering a few of my questions.

Kara

Mobile is one of the most organized Ports I've been too. The Dw and I got there around 11.00 am, gave the porters our luggage, and parked the car.
Went down to the terminal, proceeded through the check in process, took a few boarding pictures, waited a few minutes, and was onboard by 12.10 pm, eating lunch on the Lido Deck.

I think your going to love the Fantasy

Happy Sailing to all ;

They have made Mobile terminal easily accessible. When you are driving on the interstate in Mobile heading to downtown get off at the Canal St. exit. Take a right and stay in the right lane. From there you will see the turn to get into the terminal. I have never sailed out of Mobile but living here is one advantage I have. Traffic getting off at the terminal isnt that bad at all, but if there is a wreck in the tunnel that would be the only problem you may have due to the exit to the terminal is not that far from the terminal. But hopefully that wont be a problem for you. Happy Cruising =))

I know rumors are flying high about the Fantasy being in Mobile. I visited my TA in the past week and was re-assured that the Fantasy will be back in New Orleans after the upgrades are completed (barring another river mishap). We are booked on her in April 2009. I was informed that they expect the Port of Mobile to get another ship in the future, and it could possibly be the Fantasy. I guess only time will tell. If the Fantasy does end up in Mobile prior to our scheduled cruise we'll probably make the drive to cruise from Mobile since we're just 1 hour west of New Orleans. We have driven to Galveston for cruises, so the distance would be comparable. I actually hope a larger (7 day itinerary) ship does come back to New Orleans soon. Rick

The Mobile port is amazing! When my husband and I went through there two years ago, there were hardly any lines. We pulled in, had our car sniffed by the dogs, pulled into the garage, had our luggage taken, then took the elevator right to the port. We went right through the boarding with no delays or problems. We had gone through NOLA in '02, and it was a nightmare. We were supposed to go out of NOLA this time and are THRILLED that it was moved to Mobile. We couldn't be happier!!! You will be pleased!!

There will be a MAJOR announcement at 1:30pm in Mobile onboard the Fantasy concerning the port. On Tuesday there will be another press conference in New Orleans with another announcement.

Has anyone tried sneaking liquor aboard through the mobile port? Hubby and I haven't decided yet if we are going to try or not..... And how many water bottles can we take? I know they say not in excessive amounts, but what do they consider excessive?

The Mobile Cruise Terminal is one of the best we have sailed from and can usually be on board by noon or a little earlier. The cabins are not open until 1:00 or 1:30 though.

Getting off the ship in Mobile has always been a little slower than any other port we've been to though. I could never understand why a small ship like the Holiday took so long to disembark, when they could unload the Freedom in Rome by 9:00 completely. Must have something to do with customs.

In regards to the NOLA terminal, we sailed from there in April 08 and the newer terminal is very similar to the one in Mobile and much better than the the set up they had in 2003 and 2005 when we sailed from NOLA.

My husband and I actually handled our own luggage last time, and it was much better getting off the ship. I have heard that NOLA is better than it was in 02, when we last used it. Any improvement had to be better than it was.....it was a nightmare!! Still, I am very happy to be leaving from Mobile!!

Just got off the Fantasy this morning in Mobile. While they are running 2 ships from the port parking is a minor problem. Depending on how many people drive all of the cars will not fit in the parking garage and they were using a remote lot across the street for some. The Police would not allow departing passengers to drive in and unload luggage before 11:00 A.M.

Left of of Mobile last Sept and put a bottle of Crown in my bag. It was still there when it got to the room. One thing that I did for my next cruise which is in 11 days, is I called the bon voyue dept and bought a Liter of crown for $50 and it will be waiting in the room. It about $10 more but it is less hassle

We love the Mobile port and can't wait to go on the Fantasy. East to get to real short lines. The only problem (our fault) we got there early and had to wait for the passengers to disembark.

Love it
