When we sailed out of New York last year, we got all of our luggage out of the cab and had to roll it down the sidewalk a bit...because our taxi stopped at the dock 2 numbers down from Carnival.
The minute we arrived at the correct dock, porters took our luggage when we walked through the doors. So we did not give it to porters "curbside"...but just inside the door.
We tipped $1 a bag.

Yep, you still need to give your "checked luggage" to the porter at curbside. We too usually tip $1 per bag, except when the lovely Mrs. Jones (Vita) takes her HUGE bag, then I apologize to the porter, and slip him an extra buck or two for the back surgery he'll need later. After that, just ask, or follow the signs to priority check in. They take good care of you from that point on.
