Default Victory/Southern Caribbean with an infant?

Wow, it feels SO GOOD to be posting here again! We were first time cruisers on the Valor in April '06 and are now contemplating a second cruise... with our daughter!

She will be 22 months when we plan on cruising in May '09 on the Victory. I'm looking for any advice on how to do this without having to tote along 40 extra bags for all the "stuff" she will need during those 8 or 9 days (we're most likely going to San Juan the day before). Has anyone used the cribs that Carnival advertises on their site? If you reserve one, are you GUARANTEED to get one? Are the rooms (interior or oceanview) big enough to accommodate the Carnival crib AND still leave us with enough room to walk around if we have to go to the bathroom during the night? Do the cribs fold away or is it better for us to bring a pack n play?

Do you recommend a lightweight stroller? I know most of our excursions will be coach bus or beach type things with her, but lugging a not quite 2 year old up and down the length of the ship kind of worries me.

Any advice you can give would help a lot!!!! I really want to make this cruise work and be able to book soon!

Thanks,
Lisa

P.S. Has anyone been on the Victory recently? I'm worried that we'll be disappointed with the older/smaller ship since the Valor absolutely blew us away!

Welcome back!!! I am going to try and answer some of your questions just from what I have heard over the last couple of years.

Yes do bring a fold up stroller. The large ones have trouble getting around during crowds.

Yes, They do have baby beds, and yes there is room, but many end up making a bed with pillows on the couch, or another extra bed in the room.

Bring a baby pool. The kind you can blow up, and fits in your suite case.
This comes in handy for several reasons.

One: Most babies are not use to the shower, so you can put it in the bottom of the shower, for a nice baby bath.

Two: Babies in diapers, even swim diapers are not welcome in the pools on the ship, so you have an instant pool for you child.

Remember if you use things like diapers, baby food, wipes. They are not sold on the ship, so you will need to bring those.

Also, bring a baby medicine bag, because baby Tylenol etc. Are not usually sold on the ship.

I hope this helps and hope that others will think of things I have forgotten.

Luanne

A tip to remember..San Juan is all cobblestones, so wheeling the carriage, along these streets will be a bit difficult.

bring any type of medication that you think will come in handy for your trip just in case she gets sick. bring around 20 ziplock baggies to take little snacks so you wont have to worry about food. bring enough sippy cups that you think she will need. take one of those fold up sun strollers they work best with small areas and can be easily stored in your room. i havent ever had anyone use the cribs from carnival. one of my coworkers just let their son sleep with them so i guess its completely up to you. if i think of anything else ill post it up. but other than that have a fun cruise!
