Default Upgrade guidelines?

Hi all, we'll be sailing on our second cruise, our first with Carnival in a matter of days (Destiny on the first voyage out of Miami). I've gotten great information off of this sight including the tip to watch for price drops. Well, our cruise is already paid for, and recently went through a price drop. Now, the inside stateroom we paid for goes for the price of an Oceanview. Needless to say, we called and got bumped up to an Oceanview, no extra charge due to the fact that the price was exactly what we already paid. So, we've gone from an inside stateroom on deck 7 , to an Oceanview on the Riviera (deck 4) . At least it's not an obstructed view.

Finally, my question: Does this make us ineligible for a surprise upgrade? Would that be hoping for too much? I'd really like to get a balcony, but can't justify the $200 increase.

One never knows what the 'upgrade fairy' will do, but once you have a cabin assigned, that's usually it. Good luck though.

We were told about a balcony three years ago. Since then, I decided to go with booking the lowest balcony, which resulted in balcony upgrades since. I'll just warn you now, depending on the location, you may never want anything but a balcony again!! Try middle of the night, on a sea day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
