Default fort lauderdale

When we return from our wonderful 8 night cruise - we fly out of Fort Lauderdale. Our flight isn't until 5:30 that afternoon. What should we do in the interum between the time we have to get off the ship and get to the airport. Should we get transfers to the airport? Or take a taxi? Or what? Whats the latest you can stay on the ship? Not like we are going to be in a rush since our flight isn't until late.
Thanks!

Sounds like my trip. We actually booked a Carnival transfer. This was such a simple transition. They took us directly to the Ft. Lauderdale airport via greyhound bus and there is where we sat the entire day. Our flight wasn't until 8:30 that evening. It was a rather boring day but at least we didn't miss our flight.

Is it cheaper to book a transfer - or get a taxi? How far away is the airport from the terminal? I hate the late flight - but its non stop and the price was right .............so thats what we got. Can I stay on the ship until 11ish or so then leave? Or do they push you off for the transfer?

Why don't you see a little of Fort Lauderdale since you have plenty of time? That's a long wait in the terminal, there is lots to see in both the Fort Lauderdale and Miami area.

I don't know how late you can stay on the ship before they ask you to leave but I would think they'd be anxious to get all passengers off so they can clean the ship for the new passengers who are already waiting in the terminal to board.

The port and airport are very close...Grab a taxi...don't bother with transfers...11 would be pushing it, as the new people are lining up to get on..Look at the excursions the line offers for people with late flights..that will be your best bet..

The transfer with Carnival was $24. (total for 2 people) The bus dropped us off at the airport and we did have to walk just a short distance. As for staying on the ship until 11; I think they try and get everyone off by 8-9 to get things ready for the next group of travelers.

Yes, I'd like to do something in FLL to pass the time. I don't see any excursions on our list - but I'll check again.

If you would like to see Ft. Lauderdale, take the Everglades Experiance Tour which is for people with flights after 3pm. It includes airboat sight seeing and transfers to the airport. 127 days till Carnival freedom. This tour is for people who have not purchased Carnival transfers because it's included.

Cherylroy....lots of things to do in Fort Lauderdale if you don't want to spend time at the beach, head for the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood (10 minutes from the airport), go to the world famous Jaxson's Ice Cream Parlor on A1A (they make their own ice cream and toppings) 5 minutes from FLL airport, gamble at Dania Jai-Alai (5 minutes from airport), shop at the Galleria Mall (10 minutes from airport) and treat yourself to a wonderful lunch at the Capitol Grill on Sunrise Blvd.

those all sound good - but we will have luggage remember? Can't carry them to the mall (but would like to..lol). The excursion sounds good I guess. Have you been on it?

If you're talking about the excursion to the Florida Everglades, go for it, you'll probably see lots of alligators. I lived west of Fort Lauderdale before I moved to the Orlando area and have never taken an excursion out of any of the Ports in Florida because I've visited all of them on my own. Have fun.

No I haven't taken it, but I would have liked to. Due to being in a group cruise we are tied into an early departure. We will be on the Freedom on 1/3/09. The everglades excursion solves your luggage and excess time. You load it onto the bus. It goes with you on the tour and then to the airport. We were on the Freedom last August to Italy. You will have a great time. Since your going to Panama Canal, if you can, take the full transit of the canal. We did it on the Coral Princess 2 years ago. It was a real experiance.
