Default I too am stressing over the hurricanes

We sail on the Holiday on 9/18 and I am just alittle worried about sailing on a smaller ship and the tropical storms. I am getting a perscription for the patches and also taking some otc meds with us. Any suggestions from the more seasoned cruisers?????

By 9/18 it seems that Gustav & Hanna will be history for the Gulf Coast area. Looks like now that IKE will miss the Gulf. Even if it does effect the Gulf it will be over with.
I think your vacation will be fine. If there is bad weather, they can alter routes and itineraries if need be in order to miss the storms.
HAVE FUN !!

We leave on the 14th too, and are also closely watching both Ike & Josephine. It's our first cruise, so we're hoping all goes well - I keep telling everyone that it will be great if we can just make it onto the ship, I can deal with cancelled ports.

Looks like IKE is haded more toward the gulf now. It may even interfere with us getting back to Tampa. Not to worry. I can live with an extra day at sea if I have to...

The storm I am stressing over right now is Hanna. It's sitting right over us at the moment. OUr power has flickered a few times, but it hasn't gone out yet. Oh well, that's what the generator is for.

Got to get packing. We leave early tomorrow morning to drvie down to Tampa.

Just got back. They changed the entire trip and routed us right behind Gustov and away from Hanna. Weather was perfect. Be flexible and just chill.............

Don't stress, hurricanes are something we have no control over. As stated be willing to be flexible. DW and I cruise during hurricane season the majority of the time and have encountered several hurricanes. If necessary the ship will be diverted to avoid problems. Relax and enjoy your cruise.

Default Carnival Fascination

I'm scheduled to depart Mon Sept 8th on the Fascination to Key West and Cozumel. Looks like the hurricane is headed more south now. Key West doesnt look good at this time.

Thanks everyone, I am flexible so I know I will have a great time NO matter what Mother Nature throws at us. I am glad to know that they will reroute us. I am concerned with being sea sick, but I will have plenty of medication with me!

Ike is sooooo slow moving. Looks like it will be out in the Gulf waters still friday and we fly to Tampa from Colorado Saturday. They usually fly over the gulf, would they fly a diff route or fly above it? That could be zaney. I hate this storm

Not to worry, Carnival will keep you safe ...which is what is most important!!!

We just got off the Ecstasy 3 day cruise to nowhere out of Galveston because of Gustav. We had SMOOTH seas and beautiful weather.

We will be getting a 50% refund PLUS another 50% off a future cruise which we are going to use in January!!! We had a BLAST!!

Wished I lived within driving distance of Galveston. The Ecstasy gets back on Thursday. If they have to turn the next 4 day into a 2 day cruise to nowhere for $99....I would be THERE!!!!

Seawench, they would probably fly you above the Gulf along the the gulf states and come down from the top of Florida or fly across the state a bit & come in heading towards Tampa.

If you go to this website, http://flightaware.com/live/

Punch in your flight # and name of airline. You can view your flight on different days and watch the route it took.

It's a good site.

Me Too!! That is cheaper than staying at home. Only it would take me well over 12 hours to get there.

I wouldn't worry too much...I worried a lot, only to have a great cruise on the Inspiration out of Tampa with Gustav looming nearby. We missed a port and had terrible weather the first two days, but it ended up being really fun! I also felt incredibly safe on board. They ensure you feel safe and secure. However, I wish Carnival would have communicated with us beforehand. I wrote more about my experience on my blog: http://www.unboundedition.com/content/view/7905/50/

We got home Saturday and the 50% refund (cruise rate, gov't taxes AND fuel supplement) showed up on our credit card today. So less than a week. Not bad.

We have already booked a cruise using our 50% discount with our PVP and he was able to do that immediately.

I LOVE HURRICANE SEASON!!!!

Of course everyone reacts differently to meds, but I have tried the patches and the original dramamine and have found that the best thing we can use is the "less drowsy" formula of dramamine.

We take one the night before we sail and then take one every evening before bedtime. They still make us just a little bit sleepy so it helps to take them at night. You can take up to 2 in 24 hours, but usually it only takes 1 for us. There are 2 tricks to taking meds for sea sickness. First, always take it ahead of time. If you wait until you are sick, it's too late. Second, you sometimes have to continue taking the same meds for a few days after the cruise, because a lot of people have a swaying/dizzy sensation after getting back on solid ground.

You didn't say if you were traveling with children, but we tried giving our young granddaughter the children's Bonine and it made her like a zombie. We only gave it to her once and she never needed anything else. I think children fare better than adults when it comes to being seasick for some reason. Maybe it is all in our heads
