Default Grand Turk Damage

This may have already been posted but I didn't spot it. So sorry in advance if it is a repeat.

On MSNBC.Com I found this in one of their travel articles:

"But Hurricane Ike caused an estimated $5 million to $10 million in damage to the cruise ship terminal in Grand Turk over the weekend, according to officials with Carnival Corp., which owns the cruise ship pier and terminal on the island."

And from USA Today I found this:

Carnival says cruises to Grand Turk Island, which came to an abrupt end this week in the wake of Hurricane Ike, will resume on Oct. 8.

The company says an engineering survey has found no damage from Hurricane Ike at the two-year-old cruise ship pier at the Grand Turk Cruise Center, which was designed to withstand a Category 5 hurricane, and minimal damage at the facility’s retail and restaurant complex.

“We believe we can complete repairs to the cruise center within a 30-day period and bring cruise ships back to Grand Turk,” says Giora Israel, Carnival’s vice president of strategic planning and port development, in a statement released to USA TODAY. “We will be able to provide many of the wonderful, beach, snorkeling and watersports experiences that Grand Turk is famous for, along with the oversized pool and food and shopping opportunities."

I wish them good luck, and hope they can make a quick turnaround...They are so dependent on tourism, in the Caribbean, they will benefit greatly..let's hope the end of the storms is in sight.

Default grand turk and other damaged stops

This is my favorite stop because no one harasses you to buy anything and the Margaritaville is the best not to mention the snorkeling. As a side note, I don't know how many people inhabit Grand Turk but maybe bringing some school supplies or nonperishables such as dry milk, etc. might be appreciated.* Maybe Carnival has someplace on their site that you can go to to find these things out.* Think about your other stops along the cruise too.* Maybe there was someplace hit even harder.I know our timeshare location in Cabo always lets us know the things that the residents are in need of.
