there is shopping at the pier and you can walk all over San Juan.

you could take a Bacardi Factory tour or a separate tour through the ship (you will not be able to see the Factory on your own at 5 p.m.).

the first time i was in PR we ended up bored and disappointed because i hadn't researched the port enough. check this board, check the ship's offerings for shore excursions and decide what you want to do.

Senor Frogs is always an option as well if you like to party

Do you have any idea what is available (shopping) at the pier? We just may go to Senor Frogs...

inside the terminal there are liquor stores and souvenir things.

outside the terminal if you walk out to the street and to your left you will find lots of locals with purses and watches and all kinds of other things. similar to market type set up you can find everywhere in the Caribbean.

Senor Frogs is a short walk from the pier, but i have no idea how to tell you to get there

For senor frogs, come out of the pier and hang a left, there is an alley right next to the sheridan hotel (on its left side), showing a sign of senor frogs. We got a coupon for it walking off the ship but didn't get in there, but saw it from the Sheridan

You are just a few feet from Old San Juan. Not sure what is open after 5, but you should be able to roam around a little.

The ship will have a couple of excursion options. I hate the fact that in recent years, San Juan, has almost become an afterthought for mNny cruise lines.

We arrived late the last time I was there, and it was still light. We opted for a city tour, and it took us to parts of the city, we had never seen before, then, dropped us off, and we shopped at Forteleza Street for a bit.

If you arrive on Saturday, there used to be a craft area set up by the fountain, with home made items you canbring back home.. Pushcarts also lined the streets.

If you like, you could head over to the hotel district and go to a casino and see a show. El San Juan Hotel is a nice choice to do this.

We sailed Triumph last year, and SJ was one of my favorite ports. Granted, we arrived in the morning....

We went up to the forts, and took some of the best pictures of our trip from the fort overlooking the waters. Beautiful spot.

My wife and I then wandered around a bit, and by chance (and luck) we wound up at Senor Frogs. We had a blast.....just the two of us drinking, laughing, dancing....conga lines, etc, etc. I was not disappointed in that stop at all.

I was told about 6 or 7 years ago that Carnival was going to drop SJ from its port stop lists. I was told my a CD or somebody else supposedly in the know. No real reason was given to me and obviously it hasnt happened. I too didnt like arriving at 5pm. It was almost dark as it was winter and the whole thing felt a little weird. We walked around a little but not much else. I have no urge to return.

The one time that we actually got to spend the day there, I enjoyed it a lot. But, we are not night people. No desire to party in a port, so a late stop there is a waste for me.

Default Love San Juan

I love San Juan! It has gone through some changes in the past few years. The Condado and Isla Verde areas have underwent a major upgrade recently. If you like to eat there are a slew of wonderful restaurants to choose from. Do some research before you go and you won't be disappointed. Several hotels have added some posh new ultra-lounges. Try the Wetbar at the San Juan Water and Beach Club if you have time. It's on the roof and features Huge couches and daybeds all lit up with cool blue and purple lights. A great hangout for the hip. Dress to impress.

For dinner try Figueroas's Dragonfly for Caribbean-Asian cusine or Panza at Hotel Cervantes or Tantra for Indo-Latino dishes. Good luck and have fun.
