What goes on if you don't leave the ship in port?

Are there shows, games ,casino, what happens if you just stay?

Depending on the ship, they do offer limited activities such as a movie in a lounge, some games, the pools adn buffets are open but the stores and casinos are closed.

You get to enjoy the pool and lunch without the crowd. Casino will be closed in port. No shows but there might be bingo or trivia type activity. 8)

Can't answer for Carnival. When we where on HAL and RCI most activities where scaled down and cancelled. The buffet and dining room were open . The spa had reduced rates on some items.
The casino & stores where closed. Most (I think all) where open.

There is still lots going on except on a smaller scale.

You relax :D

The spa usually does have its best deals while in port - if you are into that sort of thing.

The ice cream machines work too!

Depends on your cruise. There are a few (very few) ports that allow the casino to stay open while a cruise ship is in port. Sometimes also at the private islands. Then they will have limited slots open.

I almost always allow for one stay on the ship while in port day in order to take advantage of the ship pool.

There are many things to do while the ships are in port. There are no shows, the casino is closed, and the shops are closed too. There should be plenty to do. All you have to do is look in the Carnival Capers and everything that there is to do is listed there. The spa is always cheaper when the ship is in port. I also reccomend to do your tanning then if you want to becuase there wont be many people to bother you. Also using the pool and if you want to do some laundry. If you dont leave the ship when it is port you should always do something that is usually busy becuase usually when the ship is in port it wont be busy. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask me.

We use these days to sleep late...since I am not used to staying up late...

and just relaxing. I am not a sun person....but our son loves the slide during these times ...because they are never crowded.

We very rarely leave the ship in port anymore. If you stay aboard, you can have any lounger you want. You can spend as long in the hot tub by yourself as you wish. You don't have to stand in line at the buffet to get any food or dessert you wish, again, and again, and again. There are limited activities and games after lunch, and you stand a much better chance of winning, because all those people who cheat are ashore. You can enjoy visiting with the crew, as they aren't nearly as busy, and will have time to chat with you. (I've spent many a GREAT hour sitting with members of the band, the lead singers, the dancers  , the guest comedians and performers, and many, many of the ships officers and crew. They simply aren't as busy, and have time to spend with you.)

Thanks lhp: The ship is usually the destination for us, with rare exception. (Europe of Hawaii for example) People know we cruise a lot, and they'll always say, "Where are you going on your next cruise"? They are usually amazed when I reply, "I don't know", until I explain what goes on aboard cruise ships, and how many times we've been to all of the Caribbean ports. I love talking to, and getting to know all the performers, and crew aboard ship, and as I stated, in port is the time to do that.
