Default Would you pay extra for a steak??

I saw this while browsing online.. RCL is charging an extra $14.95 if you want a steak in the dining room.. It should be noted that this is for the new york strip, the angus is still free..

Personally I think this is BS of the first degree. They're saying they dont normally offer this steak in the dining room anyway. I think all food should be free. That's just my personal opinion. Thoughts?

Nope,
I wouldn't pay any extra, I'd find something on the menu...Just more cost cutting measures.

I don't think they should charge for something in the dining room. Soon you will only be able to eat in the buffet if you want food included in your price.

Last January on The Emerald Princess, you could order a steak any night on the cruise for free, it was one of a few basic entrees available instead of the nightly specials.. I have paid for the steak in the upscale restaurant, but would not in the regular diningroom

I wouldn't pay extra for a steak unless it was in the supper club like on The Glory. Now that was a steak! In the dining room on the Glory they were serving flat iron thin steaks the same kind I usually purchase in my local supermarket to fry in a pan on a lazy dinner night. They cost like 4 or 5 bucks and the ones they were serving on the ship were half the size of what I purchase. I was shocked they were serving that type of steak on the Glory in the dining rooms. It is tender but when compared to the T bone steak they were serving my sister in the regular dining room a year earlier on the Sensation on a shorter cruise it made the flat iron steak look like a poor choice.

No way! I usually try to stay away from red meat anyway, and in the past I've gone for the steak, maybe one night on a 7 day cruise,,,,however,,,,I can certainly do without it. Like the others have said, if I'm going to spend $15 for something extra, I'll just throw in a few bucks more and go to the supper club. They can keep their steaks as far as I'm concerned.

Only in the Supper Club. The steak that I had on the Conquest last Christmas was one of the best that I've had in my life. And I know good steak -- I live in Texas!

It was better than any Pappas Bros., Strip House, Morton's, Ruth Chris (yuck); Smith & Wollensky, Gallagher's that I've had around the country.

And for $30/pp for an outstanding multi-course meal -- it was a steal.

RCL is still serving the regular steak free in the dining room. But, if you want the steak from the specialty restaurant Chops, you have to pay $14.95.

Well I am a carnivore, but I would NOT pay for a steak unless it's in the specialty restaurant.

Maybe for a Maine lobster, but nah, not for a steak. Jeepers, I can have that easily at home and usually don't. We don't eat much meat. Keeps us thin.

I doubt that I would pay for it. But I really don't see why it causes people so much grief that they are offering it. I believe OPTIONAL things they come up with for folks to pay for, like the premium steak, helps keep the overall price of cruising at least half way reasonable. People here always preach "hey, it's your vacation do what you want"...Well, if somebody wants to pay a bit extra for an awesome steak and maybe doesn't want to dress up and sit through a prolonged five course meal in one of the specailty places why is it any skin off my back? Many folks think nothing of spending twice as much as the price at home for a massage or spa treatment while they are on board so who cares if they want to buy a great steak?

When they charge for things that were once free it's maybe something to talk about...But if they are just adding options that were never there in the first place, what's the big deal? I think some folks on here need to pick their battles a little more wisely and not get worked up about things that mean next to nothing. The cruise lines are a BUSINESS. They are there to make MONEY. Would you rather they charge us all more to cruise or would you rather they collect it by selling things that are optional to those that will enjoy them...I think it's kind of a no brainer.

You used to get a great steak in the dining room. I actually just had one a few days ago. I also was able to get it rare.

Not unless I went to the specialty restaraunt. On CCL you can still get a decent steak free in the regular dining room. We did the supper club on the Legend and I had the most orgasmic steak ever. Super juicy and perfect. HMMMMM That was worth it.

I never had orgasmic steak. That might be worth $14.95!

i eat chicken, so i'm not affected. but all my sister ate in Europe on our cruise was steak, so she would starve i guess....

it's scary that they're starting to charge for things in the main dining room...i may be wishful thinking but i hope the trend doesn't continue with other yummy items!

I really enjoy a good steak but not every day. I had steak, first night, salmon one night, lobster the 3rd night and something else the other night.

But I do also eat alot of chicken. Especially at home.

I would agree if it was something that was normally in the dining room. But the super premium steak isn't normally one of those items. All they're doing, in my opinion,is creating a nice option which is good for the folks who want to enjoy it, makes a few bucks for the cruiseline & has no affect on anyone else.. Seems like a win/win venture to me.

We went to the steak house on the Carribean Princess when we sailed on her and the steak was terrible. I have come to the conclusion that these pay for dinning rooms aren't worth the extra expense.

I agree. It's kind of like if they started offering lobster every night for an additional fee. How many would eat more lobster?
Not me, I don't like lobster. I like steak but I don't need to pay any extra for the fancy steak. I'll take the menu that comes with the price of the cruise, thank you very much!

Why not, people on RCI pay extra for a hamberger in the ROcket. Its part of the new nickle and dime program.

In my opinion that stinks! The NY strip is Carnival's standard steak, and besides a filet my favorite cut, guess I'll stick with Carnival!

I don't mind paying extra for the specialty dining club however....it is so worth every dime of the $30-35.00 that Carnival charges.

Yea, now I remember the new york strip is the standard steak for Carnival and filet migon (sorry for spelling). They also have chatobreon (sorry for spelling again) and other great steaks included in your cruise price so I will stick with Carnival too.

Pay extra for a NY strip steak, no. For a Rib Eye steak, perhaps.
