I'm going to have to agree with all posters who voted for early check-in, nothing like a cold beer in hand by Noon (or earlier)...the music is playing, the sun is shining (hopefully) and everything is right with the world.

I want to be there as early as possible. I would rather wait in line at the ship that to be waiting somewhere else to get to the ship.

First time we arrived like our papers said around 1:30pm, we waited for about an hour. Last time we got there around 10:45am and we were on board in less then 30 minutes this includes the 20 minutes we spent stuck in the elevator! I will try my luck next time and go early again.

We have always boarded between 11:30 and 1:30 and the worse was for MSC as the agens were new with a new system.

My only suggestion if you want to board late is to be sure just how late you can board and not be later than the lice tells you. I understand that people are beign turned away because of being as little as 5 minutes late, have read about this on other forums. It seems for most lines you have to be on board now 90 minutes prior to sailing. I know for our cruise next April MSC has set 3 hours prior or not allowed to board. I don't know if there is a new regulation that has been set or what.

The last time we were on HAL everyone had to be on board an hour before departure.
The same on RCI

Since we’ve only cruised out of Florida so far we fly in the day before and get a hotel on the beach. Checkout time is usually 10:30 so checkout and grab a cab to the seaport. Most of our cruises began boarding at or shortly after 11:00 so we were finished with the check in and ready to go when boarding started.

Our first 2 cruises we arrived at 11:30 when the airport busses were arriving and spent a long time in line. So far being there at 11:00 has been really quick. Especially in the new Miami terminial.

I have to agree with Paul as far as Carnival out of New York goes. We did Carnival 2003, 2004 and just this September, same scenario 90 minute or more wait. In fact the 2004 trip was delayed by a medical emergency and they told us to be at the pier no later than 8 p.m. for boarding. We didn't board until 12:30. This last cruise was at least a 90 minute wait. We did a princess out of brooklyn last year. We arrived a little after 10 and we were on board a little after 10:30. NCL the first time was maybe a 30 minute wait. The second NCL we were put in the lattitudes waiting area and waited less than 15 minutes to board. All these cruises have been out of New York. This trip with Carnival they were still disembarking passengers at 1 p.m.

Don't forget too that you are at the mercy of US customs. If they delay people disembarking, embarking passengers are going to be delayed.

We go early. We are usually at the port by 11 and having lunch before 12. We wear our swimsuits under our clothes (we stay somewhere local the night before) so if the weather is perfect, we have a drink of the day in hand and the sun starting our tans. We cheat and check to see if our rooms are done early too. So far, we've been lucky. We're going early again this time as I'll be more than ready to get that vacation going!

As soon as they let me.
My goal is always to be sipping my Fun Ship Special and having a steak sandwich for lunch on the LIDO deck by noon.

Plus there is nothing to do on the ship early on, and you have to carry your bags with you because your cabin isn't ready.

The idea of arriving early may have worked a few years ago - but in the last year it has gotten out of hand and that is when the rush is....

It may depend on the size of the ship and terminal, though.

Try what you want, though.
OK I am a cruise virgin here but gotta wiegh in. I have 4 months to go and never having cruised befor can't wait to get started and want to spend as much time onboard as possible now granted after I have been on several cruises I also may prefer to arrive a little later but NOT this time!Way to excited

If you get to the terminal at 11:00. Say boarding takes an hour. That brings you to 12:00. Then you go up to the Lido deck, have lunch, and some dessert. Then just in time and your room is ready at 1:00.

most cruisers are like little kids waiting for Christmas morning to come..we can't sleep on Christmas Eve because we want the morning to come to open our presents..getting to the pier early, the excitement of seeing your ship, the people, the activity which includes the standing in line and talking to people are all part of the experience...IMHO get there as early as you can..now, the very best part is to be on the deck, drink in hand watching the people who either thru no fault of their own, or if they choose to cut it close, scramble to try to get on the ship at the last minute...so get to the port the night before unless you live within an hour or two of the port

I see mention of busses at Port Canaveral? Do you have to take a bus from the parking lot to the port? Ugh, that is a pain in the bootie, maybe I will get a hotel that has a shuttle, seems that would be faster.

I am all about getting on the ship as early as possible. Usually go to the terminals around 10-11am. I too like to get on the ship and explore and have lunch then just go hang out at the pool. You can check almost all your luggage so it's not that big of a deal to not be able to get in your room right away.

We consider the moment we step foot on the ship is the moment our vacation starts. So, we always get there early. Line or no line we want
to be on the ship as soon as possible.

You can tell if Dave the Wave thinks a girl walking by is hot. Just check out his speedo. The answer will be self evident... 8)

sort of like the comic strip character Dilbert :: however Dave The Wave is a gentleman and a connoisseur of fine wine, women, cruise ships and song and he would never reveal his true feelings in anyway but in an appropriate manner towards members of either persuasion

Like DTW, I'm always anxious to get aboard, and we usually arrive at the terminal around noon. Being Platinum on Carnival helps a lot, and we normally are aboard by 12:30 at the latest. The WORST situation I've encountered is at Port Canaveral, and it's the LUGGAGE DROP OFF! I don't understand it, but for some reason they just can't get their ducks in a row! I've waited in line, in the car for up to an hour, just to drop off the checked luggage, and the answer, before you ask is, NO once you're in line, you can't get out. This has happened twice over there, so in the future I very carefully look at the area and see if I can determine whether there is the usual big back up, and if there's any doubt, I simply park, and roll my checked luggage to the terminal.
Easiest embarkation we've experienced, is without a doubt, Tampa. Quick, painless, and very, very friendly.

Default PAUL, I think you are wrong this time

PAUL, I think you are wrong this time. Paul that does not often happen, that you are wrong but this time it makes no sense for me.

I travel in the day before and stay in a hotel in Miami, with no car or any thing to do except wait to get on that ship.

Now the question. Do I sit in the hotel lobby or do I wait on line to get on the ship early?

NO PROBLEM I go to the ship early.

Sorry Paul.
