Default If I ordered a fruit and wine basket could I?????????

Could I take what we didn't eat home? Or does it have to stay on the ship?

USDA Regulation:
Fresh fruit is not allowed to be taken off the ship at debark.
I have never tried to take wine home without drinking it first.

What is crazy is that the fruit and basket are from the USA but you are not allowed to bring it back into the USA. The reasoning would be any insects that might have infested the basket. The same with the flowers onboard the ship.

Yep, I got busted by a beagle once. Seriously. Had forgotten about the no fruit law and stuck an apple in my carry on for the 5 hour ride home. A "fruit beagle" nailed it. Luckily, a sincere apology got me off the hook. I knew they used drug dogs, but fruit dogs?

Wow! I don't blame you for the apple - but guess rules are rules. I once (in my beginning days of cruising) took a sprig of a plant from St. Thomas and it still grows like wildfire! I call it my 50,000 plant! Good thing I didn't get caught! I had it in a sock, in a shoe, in the middle of the suitcase. Never again tho!

We brought wine off the ship - no problem.

Once had to throw California peaches away at the California/Nevada bornder - that took us by surprose.

Why buy the fruit basket, there is always fresh fruit in the buffet area and just pack your wine in your suitcase! You'll save lots of money!

Do any of you remember this? It happened years ago, but a woman brought home a snail, from the islands, and it multiplied a 1000 fold......it was a real life horror story, reason enough to not take anything home I should google it, to remember, exactly what happened. I found it...yayay!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In 1966, a boy visiting Hawaii brought two or three of the giant snails home to his grandmother in Miami, where she released them in her garden. The snails, each capable of laying 1,200 eggs each year of their nine-year-long lives, rapidly reproduced. Within three years, some forty-two city blocks of Miami were infested with more than 18,000 snails and millions of eggs. Twenty-five miles north of Miami, another infestation broke out in Hollywood, Florida.
Giant African snails multiply quickly and are serious pests.
To control the exploding population, the predatory snail Euglandina rosea, which preys on the giant snail was brought into the affected Florida cities. While E. rosea did eat some giant snails, humans were forced to take matters into their own hands.
The giant snails were eventually eradicated through a costly and labor intensive effort involving the use of bait and hand-collection. By the late 1970's, after a four-year, $1 million campaign, Florida was finally free of this invasive species. It will require continued vigilance to keep this hardy traveler at bay.
They are English Beagles and are used for sniffing out just about anything. In LHR they roam the airport sniffing everything in site. Their sense of smell is the best among any dog breed.
When we first started cruising, they would say: If the dog stops by you bag, hope that he is going to lift his leg.
