18 Day South American Cruise on the Splendor

My wife and I have been on 6 Carnival Cruises and are booked for our next cruise (see subject) departing March 3, 2009. Any advice for lodging in Santiago (Valparaiso), Chile or worth wild excursions at any of the ports of call; Arica (Chile), Lima (Peru), or Quito (Ecuador). We've been to Acapulco, Mexico and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico too.

Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!

I don't have a any ideas about the places in South America. But PV and AC are nice places. I just got somewhere to dive us around town and see all the cool areas they have around town. If you ask the people that live there, they will tell you all the cool places there is to go. Or you might even can ask a crew member and they might have been on another ship that went to the ports. That won't work for the South America ports because this is the 1st ship to go to south america, but it would work for the Mexico ports.

We stayed at the Grand Hyatt in Santiago.

Note that when you fly into Chile there is a $131 reciprocity fee, payable in USD cash on arrival. It is good for the life of the passport.

On our cruise we did not stop in any of those ports, so I cannot help you there.

What cruise line did you take and what ship were you on.
