Default Cozumel

I'm taking my first cruise in January. On ;the HOLIDAY from Mobile to Cozumel.
I have a question. Is there a good mall or at least some good things to do close to port that we can just walk to? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

By January, Puerta Maya will be up and running.

That is the old Carnival pier that Wilma took out. It was loaded with shops before the hurricane....no need to go into town at all, if shopping was all you wanted to do.

However, I am not certain how quickly those shops will be reopening.

We will be headed back to Cozumel next month and should dock at PM....I will report back!!!

There is plenty of shopping right south of the port. Just stay in the main shopping areas and don't wonder too far west.......
You will have fun..

If you dock at the international pier, it is south of town and there are shops at the pier... If you dock downtown there is plenty of shopping along the water front. You will find more local type shops and better prices if you go a couple of blocks off of the water front. The first time we went to Cozumel I was skeptical but since then have been all over the place and have never had a problem...

Yes there is lots of shopping right where the cruise ship pulls up to.

The Holiday is NOT docking at the Puerta Maya pier. Puerta Maya opened up to Carnival ships on Oct 16th. But for some reason the Holiday will continue to dock at the International pier as it did today.

This may change in the future. Just keep checking www.cozumelinsider.com for the port schedule.

If you dock at the International or Puerta Maya piers there is not much shopping outside the gates. Outside you have a small restaurant, a small store, a gas station, three brothels, and a segway rental place.

When I do get to go to Cozumel (at least 8 times, now) I usually shop at the stores away from the pier due to the prices. When getting off the ship, go straight across the street and go to the left for about two or three blocks . The view is great, and getting away from the mall part is better to me.

Also, I prefer when I go snorkeling and just playing at the beach.. go to CHANKANAAB park. I prefer NOT going through the cruise ship. I would just get a cab (pretty cheap) and the general price of admission to the park. They do have things out there that cost extra like swimming with dolphins but the park to me is grand...They have restaurants outside, nice shade, showers and lockers, snorkeling and diving... For a family, I think it is the best budget.. 8)

NinaMarie,
But that is when the ship docks at the Punta Langosta pier. Carnival is no longer docking there. You will now have to take a taxi to go downtown.

Bob,
The second floor of the white building just south of the Puerta Maya pier is a Gentleman's club. If you go north of the Puerta Maya pier and turn right at the traffic light, there is a gentleman's club called Salsa's. Then the next club of which the name escapes me at the moment, is also a gentleman's club.

When did Carnival stop using Punta Langosta? We docked there on Fantasy 4/30/08 and Holiday 10/8/08. Have they changed in the past week?

There was a big announcement from Carnival that the Puerta Maya pier would resume operation on Oct 16th. The Fantasy and Ecstasy were the first ones to dock there.

Per the Harbor Master's schedule, the Holiday will continue to use the International pier. All the other Carnival ships are using the Puerta Maya pier this week.

I was there on Friday (not the brothels) but Puerto Maya.

More than half the shops are open. Los Cinco Soles and Pancho's Backyard are open.
