Default The 1st time I !

Tell us about the 1st time you cruised and why/how you decided to try it.........
I will go first. Well my wife wanted to go on one for years but I really dredded going and being confined to a "boat" but after she took our daughter and a group of her friends on a cruise she talked me into it and 5 months later we took a cruise on the Conquest....... as soon as we got off the ship we booked another cruise and went 5 months later and the rest is history! We will be cruising atleast once a year if not more until we retire than watch out
Your turn!

Our first time was because of me, watching the The Love Boat reruns, back in 89..Our first cruise was May 1990, on the Celebration. We picked it beaciuse the ship went to my dream island....but darn if it didn't have engine trouble, and we went to Nasau instead...That was my first, but it was our 2nd that, sent me to cruise heaven, and, I haven't stopped since!

Thanks for sharing with everyone... Not everyone responds with their own experience but many will read these and remember their 1st time!

For me, I think I always dreamed of a "Cruise" Originally from Eastern Canada and the family I come from, I basically have salt water in my blood to start with. I love boats too. Been on several vacation with the family when I was a kid, and I think the highlight I liked best was getting on the ferries. Big difference, but I think that hooked me.

Our first cruise was absolutely perfect! We left the ship almost feeling our staff were family, actually, I wrote my email address on most envelopes and said, "If you are ever near our town, look us up and come stay with us" That's just the kind of person I am being from Newfoundland, and trust me, if you can impress a Newfoundlander with hospitality, you've done a lot! We're not that easy to impress, as we are very hospitable ourselves!

Now, the other weird thing that was great about our cruise (an pre and post cruise vacation) That 2 weeks felt like 6 weeks to us! We went home, feeling for the first time in years, they we actually had a vacation! Funny thing is, you know how they say, "Time flies when you're having fun?" Well, we actually experienced the opposite on our first cruise, we did shore excursions on every stop, took in as much as we could on the ship, and time almost seemed like it stood still!

The first time I cruised, was a last minute decison that me and my friend made. Our husbands were in Iraq in support of the war and we wanted to go. She had found a great deal that would cost us only $250 PP. My husband told me NO and her's said GO. My husband's excuse was that he wanted to go with me. I went. I told him that I was going to Miami...I did sorta, I went right past it on my way to the Bahama's! We were on Fantasy out of Port Canaveral. I wont forget it as we sailed the day after the Shuttle Columbia exploded. We had intended to visit Cape Canaveral before we sailed but they shut the base down for visitors.

We booked inside cabin U91. We loved it and I dont regret it, expecially when my husband came home and refused to go on a cruise saying that he would be bored. I didnt tell him the truth until we seperated in 2005 and he read it on my myspace blog! He was mad. But like I told him, if I hadnt of gone, I would have regreted it and been angry with him and since he refused to go, I was glad I did. I do regret not being able to bring back proof of my adventure as I knew I could not explain it to him.

Now I can go and do as I please and dont have to worry about anyone telling me NO. Freedom is priceless.

Our first cruised started in planning a ski trip - obviously we went another way. Looked at all-inclusive resorts and cruises. Ultimately decided a cruise gave us more bang for the buck. Loved it and dont go often enough.

Ok, here is the short version. DW and DD had been bugging me for months to go on a cruise I was not interested. They bugged me for more months and I finally relented. I said ok just to shut them up. Well, that was one of the best decisions I ever made.

My GF had one of those "trips" that was paid for if we went to a timeshare seminar. We did and had a good time.

I have been hooked on cruising ever since then.

THe first time I went was when I was taking travel and tourism at a college that promised a quickie diploma and a jobin the travel insudstry--course was lacking and the job never happened!!!! Anyhow, all I could talk about was travel and my mother would get tired of me talking about it whenver we took the dog for a walk, which was everyday once or twic a day. They gave my brother money to buy a truck, so I had $5000 coming to me in the form of a car when I got my license (I was 22)--I still don't have my license. I said the chances of me getting it are as likely as a horse sprouting wings and flying and I'd rather take that money and go on a cruise!!

I booked the Holiday over Xmas because I was still "in school" at the time and Xmas was when it was perfect to go. I went on a twin-share cabin on the Holiday where they matched me up with the cabin mate from HECK!!!! I truly mean from H E Double hockey sticks!!!!! I had fun, she was sick 50% of the time....I had a upper/lower berth cabin at the very aft of the ship (U217) and I sometimes wished they put me in U219 instead--the woman EVERYONE knew on the ship was in that cabin and she really did have more fun than anyone else on the ship!!!!

I had a blast and wanted to go back. Sadly, the basics of life get in the way and when your pay is woefully inadequate to cover the basics of life you do what you have to and that means "Staycations" for however long it takes....it took 15 years and a mother who wanted to take me and my Idiot of a brother (and his wife and my niece) on a family holiday....it didn't pan out and my brother and I hate each other more than we already did!!!! Mom and I went on a cruise (thanks mom--and her first cruise). I had even more fun on my 2nd cruise than the first!!!
