Default Eastern Caribbean or Mexican Riveria???

That is our delimma. We are definatly taking one of these two cruises October 2009, but we can't decide which one to do. I have been to the EC (Eastern Caribbean) but hubby has not, but neither of us have been to the MR(Mexican Riveria). Also, being October, the MR would be a better choice because of hurricanes in the Atlantic/Caribbean...but we will have to fly from NC to LAX to cruise MR...an extra cost...ahhh HELP!!! What's better in October MR or EC????

The other hard part is that both itins have GREAT ships...Freedom to EC and Splendor to MR or Spirit...depending on the itin.

I don't like having to choose...I wish we could afford to do both

I would do the Eastern Caribbean becuase I have done the Mexican Rivera so many times. But since you have done Eastern Caribbean alreasy you might want to do MR. You can cruise out of Long Beach for 3, 4, or 7 day cruises or you can cruise out of San Diego for 3, 4, 7, or 8 day cruises. So you have more of a choice out of San Diego. Also the Spirit out of San Diego goes to more exotic ports and you have 8 days instead of 7.

The hurricane chances are about the same in October for either coast and are usually beginning to wind down by then. You have the 3rd choice of Western or Southern Caribbean that neither or you have done. Still you can do an Eastern that can be completely different that the Eastern you have already done.

Unless you have some good frequent flier miles saved up, it could be significantly cheaper for you to do the Caribbean rather than the Mexican Riviera.

You won't have anything to do with a hurricane on the West Coast. So they don't have to worry about it.

Not sure what you meant about not having to worry about hurricanes on the West coast. They definitely do have hurricanes. Sometimes more than Florida. I lived in L.A. for 13 years, did at least one cruise a year and ran into several hurricanes in the process. That said, neither coast is likely to have one in October, even though the season technically goes through November 30th.

I would like to do the Mexican Riviera but can't justify the extra cost of flying there VS driving to a local port in Florida. The airfare could cost as much as the cruise.
