Default Glory delay on 11/1 returning to Port...

The Carnival Glory did not return to Port Canaveral yesterday until approximately 3:30 p.m. We were returning to Port from St. Maarten and one of the crew members became ill and the ship was re-routed to San Juan where the patient was picked up by helicopter from the aft Lido deck which took us 8 hours out of our way. If you know of anyone that sailed on the Glory yesterday, hopefully they were informed of the change in departure time before they made their way to the Port.

It must have created a logistics nightmare for passengers who were booked on early flights. If the passengers booked their flights through Carnival, all changes were taken care of by Carnival. If passengers booked their own flights through online ticketing companies or directly through the airline, they had to change their own flights. There was a long line waiting to use the Internet Cafe and at the Purser's desk waiting to use a telephone. If they used their cell phones, they'll have a big cell phone bill next month because all calls are charged International roaming rates.

We live in Florida and were parked at the Port so it did not affect us. Passengers waiting to board who arrived early had to wait all day for the ship to dock, unload, rooms cleaned, etc. We were allowed to stay in our staterooms until we docked so the poor Carnival staff had to really hustle to get everything ready for their next group of guests.

I've always wondered how much of this work was done by the room stewards and how much was done by staff brought in for the change over. Those few hours in port give the crew a chance to run to the PO and do a few other land based choses.
I used to work at the Cape when the Big Red Boat (Premier) was the only cruise line at the port, and you didn't want to go to the post office at the wrong time or you would have really long lines.
