Default 8 days to Mexico from San Diego

Hi group -

Considering doing Carnival's 8 day trip to Mexico, which stops at ports other than the usual three (did that 7 day cruise last year on Princess).

Any thoughts on this particular cruise? Are the ports worth it? If so, why don't other lines go there? (Acupolco, etc.)

I think it is the Carnival Spirit. Any comments on the ship?

Thanks.

Hi Piglet
You will not go wrong with the Carnival Spirit. Was on her last year and the ship was outstanding. We were coming back from Hawaii so I am not sure about which ports you will be visiting but the ship is great. 8)

So what ports are you going to? I just returned from a 9-day on the Spirit which included Acapulco. I love all the spirit class ships and this was no exception. My favorite port was Mazanello, I really fell in love with this city and it's people. We took a private tour and our guide was fantastic and very reasonable. I'am looking into doing an "all inclusive" so I can see more of this wonderful city. In Acapulco, we toured with Rosie and again this was a great tour, just wish I would have had more time to get to the beach.

I did that same exct cruise. The ship was great and the ports were good. We didn't do much other than shopping and going to the beach becuase it was so hot. Wel eft the ship for a few hours and then went back. So yes, I would go on that cruise. It is also nice to have a little bit of a longer cruise.

I also did the spirit and it goes to ixtapa, acapulco and manzanello or something like that.

Mexico is Mexico, the shopping is the same everywhere, same junk, however, the ship is great and I enjoyed having one extra day.

Also, the ship leaves out of San Diego and it's always nice to spend a day down there. There is an aircraft carrier right next to the ship, make sure you take the tour!

Also, make sure you get the Sushi from 5-7 and take it back to your room, have some drinks and sushi on your balcony.

Sounds great!

Is it worth it to get the suite since we are a family of four (kids ages 8 and 3). It's an extra $1000 for the week...........

Is the mini suite that much bigger than the regular room?

I don't know I have never had a mini suite. But if you go to www.cruisedeckplans.com it tells you the size of the rooms.

Also you could get two connecting rooms if you want to. But that might be more money.

By the way, what ship are you going on.

Wow sorry I blanked out for a minute. You already said what ship you were going on. What kind of room are you looking at getting if you don't get a suite. Also are you looking at getting a Suite or a Penthouse suite. If you tell me those things I can tell you sizes of rooms.

Thanks.

We are looking at either a balcony room, or a "mini suite" (that's what the woman at Carnival called it - NOT the penthouse).

I'm not doing interior rooms......

So wondering if the suite is worth $1000. Our room on the Dawn PRincess (just the two of us) was sooo tiny, I have no idea how two more people would sleep in one of those rooms.

Any explanation of configuration and size would be much appreciated. I'll look at that link.

The room is abou 189 sq feet. You could just do a regular balcony room, but it might be very tight. But it might not be tight becuase your children arn't that old. But I don't think the suite it worth it for a little extra sapce for $1000.

Each outside room with a bacony is 185 square feet plus the balcony. A Deluxe oceanview cabin with large private balcony
Square footage: 230 sq ft and Suite with large private balcony
Square footage: 245 to 275 sq ft.

An inside cabin is also 185 square feet. Therefore, a suite is not that much larger considering you will have 2 more people living inside. it's only 50 - 90 square feet larger but you will have 2 additional people.

I would suggest you get yourself a balcony cabin for you and your mate and then directly across from you, an inside cabin for your 2 kids. They do not need a balcony, they can use yours. This way, for the same price, you'll get 2 cabins with a total of 370 square feet.

Also, do NOT get adjoining rooms, when the rooms adjoin, they either subsitute a couch for a chair or a tiny love seat instead of the couch as they have to make room for the door.

Thanks. I did consider this, but my kids are too young to sleep across the hall alone, since we cannot leave the doors open.

This is definitely a play option for when they get a little older!

Thats what I was thinking too, they are too young to sleep in a room across the hall. We do that but the kids are 11, 12, and 14

I would just get 2 adjoining rooms since your kids are that young. One other idea is try to get a handicap room. They will give you these rooms under the condition if no one else needs it, it's yours. These rooms go for the regular price, yet they are the size of a mini suite without the mini suite amenities. Also, the bathroom is huge! We are going on the pride in 2 weeks and got room 5245. It is a handicap room with an obstructed balcon and the balcony is also twice as long as a normal balcony.

The handicap rooms are great with bigger rooms and bigger balcony's for the same price.

This is a great hotel in Sn Diego. It has it's own private beach and they have boats you can rent at the hotel's marina. Plus there is a blind harbor seal the hotel rescued. The harbor seal has her own pool at the front of the hotel.

We did this cruise last Febuary and almost missed it due to a snow storm in Chicago. We like the Spirit but did not care for leaving out of San Diego at that time of the year. Temps were in the 60's and lo 70's until the end of the 2nd day and the water was much choppier than the Carribean. Had a great time though, just like the Carribean more.

The only think people say they hate is that there is no edge to the shower, so the water just goes out into the bathroom. I know in a regular room it does that too, but I does it worse in the handicap bathrooms.
