Default Staying and eating healthy on a cruise---going on Glory

Our first cruise was so long ago that I barely remember it. It was in the late 90's and we went to South America and the Panama Canal, Costa Rica etc. I remember the ports but not much of the cruise. Everyone was sick as a dog for at least 3 of the days as the seas were rough and it was a small ship. They were handing out 'bags' in the hallways.

We went on the Celebration last December, and it was a bit rocky but not really much. I avoided dramamine because it makes me just tired.

Anyhow, besides the tiny memory of those pleasantries, I remember that the food was decent on the first one but not many choices that were not very rich and fattening.

Celebration had some good choices both on the buffet and in the dining room and even had some vegetarian themed items a couple of the days. Good eggplant and zucchini from what I recall and some of the fish was seasoned nicely.

How is Glory for avoiding weight gain? Also, what is the gym like? I see that it appears to be a bigger ship, so just walking around a few times a day will be nice. Suggestions on the healthy food side of things?

I think you'll find the gym to be GREAT, and as you noted the ship is a lot bigger than what you probably cruised on before (better than double Celebration) and has a really nice jogging/walking track. I also believe you'll find low fat, healthy choices on the menu, and with just a bit of diligence, you'll be able to eat smart while aboard. Know you'll have a GREAT cruise aboard Glory.

Our daughter, who is always trying to watch her weight, actually lost a few pounds on our cruise. She ate a lot of fruit and salads and in the dining room she frequently ordered from the Spa Selections area of the menu. I also don't think she ever took the elevator. She used the stairs to go everywhere.

I actually lost 2 lbs. on my last cruise. I was careful what I ate and decided early on not to blow calories on things that were not top notch delish - like...the dinner rolls and the pillow chocolates - so not worth the calories. I love fish, ordered seafood 4 of the 5 nights. On the 5th night I had grilled pork chop, great, and 3 desserts. I did very well, so much walking, I guess it all balanced out. Going again next week. I've lost a total of 100 lbs. and I sure don't want to have to work it off again.

That is what I am thinking, and I also have more trouble cooking myself good food sometimes but if it is right there and available I probably will do BETTER. I liked the fish last time, and I recall there were several lunches at the buffet that had nice vegetable spreads.

We just got back from a cruise - and walked daily on the treadmill - then the steam room - then the whirlpool. :-) Ate healthy and you can ask for salmon on the lido or chicken breast! No problems! Actually lost a few pounds and ate (yes had ice cream too..lol). I'm sure I'll gain those back now that I'm home. :-) Go and enjoy!
