Default Question about Back two Back on Destiny

Hi all, I was looking at cruises and I realized I could do a 5 day and a 4 day back two back on Destiny. These are two different itineraries and I have never been to the Caribbean so this could work out good. However, I don't know anything about how Back 2 Back cruises work.

Do I get the same cabin? Do I have to leave the ship and then embark again for the second cruise? Is Destiny a big enough ship to spend 9 days on?

Are these ports any good: Key West, Florida; Cozumel, Mexico, Ocho Rios, Jamaica; and Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands? We know we want the next cruise to go to the Caribbean we just don't know anything about the area. This leaves out of Miami, what other airports can we fly into? Any help is appreciated.

Our very first back to backs were in '97, and happened to be on the Destiny.
We did two 7 day cruises. Back then, security systems were different.

Now you do have to physically leave the ship and run through customs & immigration to get back on... but you don't need to take your belongings with you. Its more of a technicality that takes just a few minutes.

The question on the cabins is it depends how you book. If you book guarantees you might have to move after the first cruise. They help you move, but you're best off booking specific cabins to avoid it.

I've quit doing back to backs on the same ship. I personally think it's worth the hassle of packing and changing ships, so the cruises are different, with different entertainment and different menus. To do that, we switch cruise lines.

Thanks Kuki, I hadn't thought about the fact that the shows are the same. I'm a little concerned about the age of the ship. Is it a fantasy class ship?

Kat
No it is not Fantasy Class it is bigger. I was on it 2 weeks ago and it is fine. A little wear here and there but nothing to spoil a cruise. There are plenty of choices if you want to do a B2B with different ships. We did the Destiny the first week and then the Splendor out of FLL the second week. You can fly into MIA or FLL.

Default Destiny Back to Back..

HI Katlady;

We are doing the five night going out of Miami on 1/12/09 on this ship.
The Destiny is not a fantasy class ship. It became part of the fleet in 1996 and is about 30,000+ gross tons bigger then a fantasy class ship. We were worried about the condition of the ship but what reviews we read she seems to be just fine. Our first cruise was on the Carnivale which was
built sometime around 1958 (??). Carnival has come alongs ways.

We have not been on a ship as big as the Destiny and are excited about our upcoming cruise! We have not done a b2b but that sounds like a good deal, two cruises and only one r/t flight! Happy Holidays!

katlady: all kinds of options for you in Florida

Tampa airport: you could do a cruise from port of Tampa; they have the Carnival Inspiration; Grandeur of the Seas and I think the Carnival Legend.

available airports in Fla:

Ft Lauderdale (close to both Port Everglades & Port of Miami)
TPA (POrt of Tampa & Port Caneveral)
Southwest Regional (Ft Myers); 3 hour drive to Port Everglades & Tampa, slightly longer to Miami
Orlando (Pt Canveral , Ft Lauderdale, etc).
and there is northern Fla with the Jacksonville port.

since you haven't done the Carribbean you will probably love all the ports of call that you mentioned;

I have had so much fun on my two Destiny cruises I wouldn't have minded doing a back to back on her. Like I said, she isn't the prettiest, but she IS the most Fun!

Hope you have a great time

No it is a destiny class ship. It is about 30,000 tons bigger that the Fantasy class ships. The Destiny has lots of balconies.

I would definitely get the same cabin to avoid the hassle of moving all your belongings

Thanks you guys for the great tips. Thank MsBJ I know nothing about where the different ports and airports are in Florida so that is helpful. If I do the back two back I will for sure book an assigned cabin (great tip). Plus for the cost of a seven day I get credit for two cruises towards my ten. I have enjoyed cruises on the fantasy class ships, but I also really liked the big new Carnival Freedom. You know what I think I just like cruise ships. It's nice to know Destiny is bigger than the fantasy class ship, does anyone know when the Destiny was last in drydock? Also how far is Miami from Orlando in case we want to see Disney World?

Default Destiny....

HI Katlady;

We agree! We like the Fantasy class ships to, but we are still excited to
go on the Destiny! I think she was in for a major refit back in 2006?
I could be wrong and I hope someone corrects me on that date.

We have been on ships ranging from 22,000 tons on up. The Destiny
will be the biggest we have ever cruised on. Kelli likes the beaches and that is why we are taking the cruise that does Grand Turk and Half Moon Cay.

I am not sure how far it is between Orlando and Miami?

To us any cruise is fun and I just enjoy being on a ship, that's my favorite part of a cruise!

Our last cruise ended in Miami. The only direct non stop flight home I could find was out of Orlando, so we chose to drive a rental car up, and fly home direct from there. The drive is about 4 hrs. (3 if you're in my car )

There are 2 Carnival ships at Port Canaveral and 2 at Tampa with Orlando in the middle. You might find something that will work for you with those choices. 8)

The Destiny was just in drydock in September.
