Default Open Bar Cruise - Liberty

This is going to sound ridiculous, but what is an "open bar cruise"? I found groups on some website and for the Liberty sailing 2/7/09 it stated "Open Bar Cruise" and had a phone number for reservations. I know people plan group cruises and just curious how an open bar would work on a cruise when the drinks are separate. Do they pay some type of premium and wear the wristbands (like the over 21 you wear at festivals and such)?

I feel silly asking, but I would like to know how it works.

Thanks!

Have not heard of that before either. There are some Cruisemates group cruises where they throw in a cocktail party and have an open bar for about an hour or so... Could be something like that possibly??

I just did a google search and found out this open bar cruise covers drinks up to 7.50. Here's how much they pay for a cabin:
- Inside Category 4A Cabin $1039.48/pp
- Oceanview Category 6A Cabin $1159.48/pp (Picture Window)
- Balcony Category 8A Cabin $1329.48/pp (Private Balcony)

Includes all beer, malt beverages, liquors, sodas, and non-alcoholic beverages up to $7.50 per item at all bar locations throughout the ship. Bottled wines (Carnival selection) at dinner also included. This is a 20-30 something group from the VA area.

From what the website states, they need at least 30 people and have currently 29 signed up. I know what I paid for our balcony and I while I don't plan to limit my beverages on this cruise, I don't think I could drink $550 which is the difference between what I paid and what this group is charging. Maybe some people could, but certainly not me!

Hope they have fun!

Good Googleing there Eskie. I wonder if googleing is a word and how it would be spelled? I'm with you too much of a premium for me. Maybe if I were in my 30's.

Welcome to CruiseMates!

Wow I just hope we dont hae to deal with 30 out of controll drunks everyday.. It is a big ship so maybe it wont be so bad. I know if I paid that price I would be drinking until I could hold no more.... these must be hard core drinkers. OH NO>>>>

So the deal is not that great unless you constantly drink from when you wake up, until you go to bed.
