As a first time Carnival cruise person I have a smoking question. I am hoping there policy is similar to Princess. Would someone give me a quick overview of the smoking policy on Carnival? Thanks, Mike

Where You Can Smoke: Smoking is permitted in casinos, dance clubs, piano bars and other live music venues, as well as designated areas on open decks.
Where You Can't: All dining areas are non-smoking, as are a number of public rooms, including the aft cabaret lounge, main show lounge, library, and along the promenade.
Cigar and Pipe Smoking: Ships in Carnival's Destiny and Conquest classes have cigar bars.
Carnival Cruise Lines has designated the Spa stateroom and suite accommodations, inclusive of the balcony, as an entirely smoke free environment. Guests booked in a Spa cabin agree to strictly comply with this non-smoking policy and refrain from smoking or allowing any other Guests from smoking in the Spa cabin. To preserve Spa standards and ensure staterooms and suites are free of smoke residue, Carnival will asses a $250.00 reconditioning fee per spa stateroom or suite for guests that do not comply with the non-smoking policy. This charge will be applied to the guest's Sail and Sign account.

Carnival is presently "fiddling" a bit with their smoking policies. On some Destiny and Conquest Class ships, they've experimented with designating what was the cigar bar non smoking, and moving cigar smoking (and cigarettes) to the Sports Bar. They've also experimented with making the piano bar non smoking.
The Atrium Bars on all their ships is non smoking, as is the entire length of the Promenade deck.
Smoking is allowed in cabin and on private balconies (with the exception of the Spa category of cabins on the Splendor) . Public areas where smoking is allowed is now limited to the casinos, sports bars, and in some piano bars. On outside decks, it's the starboard side.
On ships with "domed" roofs that close in inclement weather the areas around those pool decks is non-smoking. That's the aft pool areas on Destiny and Conquest ships, and the central pool deck on the new Splendor.

Also the midship pools on the Spirit class ships have the domes.

Thanks all for your help. I did look on line but could not find the smoking policy. I don't smoke but Carole does. This sounds fine, on our Hawaii trip we spent a lot of time in the Casino, RCCL does not allow smoking in the room. They do allow it on the balcony and in a limited number of other places. The Casino is fine, I am sure thats where we will end up. Mike

You shouldn't worry about smoking in the cabin because I have never had a smoke smell in the cabin. They do a good job of getting all the smoke smell out of the cabin if the person before you has smoked.
The only problem I have had is that the people next to me smoked constantly. I could never smell it in my room (carnival has good air systems), but when I walked out my room I could smell it if they had opened their door recently.
