I would go one of two ways one area I would stay at is FTL Beach it is about a 5 to 10 min ride to the port. The hotels in that area I would stay at is. The Double Tree, Sherdian Yankie Clipper or the best western ftl. the double tree is across the street from the beach and the other two are right on the beach. The other way you could go is the staty at the Hard Rock Hotel and Cansio. Which is about 15 min right from the port it is further away but the rooms are great plus their is alot to do right on the proprity so you wouldn't have to go anywhere the one down side is that the rooms are pricy. I live down here so any questions just ask.

Over the years I have stayed in many hotels in Fll, but I am a fan of staying close to the port, around 17 St. causeway area...There are many hotels with different price points, greta restaurants, and a hopping center. all compactly located..Amerisuites, now Hyatt Place is adjacent to the shopping area, with a supermarket, restaurants and some nice shops...Emabssy Suites, Holiday Inn Express, The Bahia Mar, Pier 66,all nice properties...Give Pricelina try too, and work a deal....
The Outback restaurant is behind the Hyatt, and Bimini Boat Club, is wonderful, if pricey.....
If you take a peek at this article I wrote, it wil give you some more info..if you can get up to the Festivale Flea Market ..go for it...
