Default What to do in Montego Bay

We are going to montego bay jamaica & would like some advice as what to do or see while there. I am a little worried about the safety & we need something kid friendly since we are traveling with a 7 year old. Any advice or recommendations appreciated, Thanks.

My time in Mobe, was not a good experience..we took an island tour, and
saw a drug deal going down as we entered Margarittaville, which was dirty, and I would tell you not child friendly. A craft fair on a hilly, rocky area, a strip mall jewelry store, and a drive through a high end neighborhood, made this tour a real miss....

You could do the Rose Hill Plantation tour, Dunns River, a bus ride over to Ochos Rios, which fun for kids.... I think water related excursions here are a safer bet.....

Doctor's Cove Beach is nice. It has a nominal fee to enter, and security on guard which keeps out a lot of the dealers and beggars. You can take the shuttle bus there which leaves from the terminal building.

There is also river rafting and the canopy tour in Montego Bay. What ever you do, just book some kind of excursion, nothing to do by the port itself.

I've stayed at all the Sandals properties on Jamaica and thoroughly enjoyed them all. Beaches Negril is a blast for the kids with water slides and lazy rivers. I'm not sure what you mean by worth it. How much are day passes? Do you realize the cost of a cab from MoBay to Negril is around $100?

I agree with the other posters that Dr's Cave Beach is a nice safe beach close by. There is a nice little beach bar and grill named The Groovy Grouper. Cold drinks and good eats. This beach is semi-private as it is shared with Breeze's Mobay. It's also extra to rent chairs or umbrellas. Do use caution in Mobay on your own. We've seen alot of craziness on the streets. We even had a incident where the police saw a thug approaching us and screeched the car to a halt and pointed assault rifles at everyone. A little intense to say the least.

We've also made wonderful friendships with some amazing Jamaicans. So don't be too afraid to venture out. I felt safer there than I do in my original hometown of Detroit, but thats not saying much.

Day passes through the ship are $119 adult, $99 child. I did NOT realize cab fare was that much-I am guessing the transportation is not included.

I am becoming a bit concerned about going into Mo-Bay, however this is where 17 year old daughter wants to get off the ship and do some sort of excursion.

Default Doctors Cave Beach

About Doctors Cave Beach , how expensive is the food & drinks? Is it a safe local beach there in MoBay? Please share your personal experience about Doctors Cave Beach & any suggestions. Is it safe to just take a local taxi there & how much is the taxi ride? Thanks.

trust me on this

We just got back, and for the second time went to SUNSET BEACH..its a few dollars by taxi, and you can see the ship from the resort. Its GORGEOUS. they just totally redid the whole thing! I was soooo impressed. We went last year while they were doing the makeover and wow what a great job they did! It was 60.00 for adults and 40 for kids which is about 40.00 or so cheaper then sandals....which is a 45 minute or so drive. The drinks were great, they gave me extra shots in my drinks when i asked and the beach was gorgeous...lots of paddle boats, canoes snorkling etc all free. They have a great little water park with a couple of very cool and very big slides and a lazy river along with 3 other pools and several hot tubs and swim up bars. I can NOT tell you enough great things about it. My husband wants to do a 4 day trip just to this resort next year and i'm thinking im game it was really that nice.

if you want a relaxing beach day and a great pool then this is it, good food and great drinks
