We just got off the Paradise and they are now using your cabin card on the slots. It has some good points but be sure to UPLOAD your money BEFORE you take the card out. If you don't do an UPLOAD the money is gone.
Good side of this was that you are able to get money with no fees if you use your card at the slot machine, however, they charge 3% at the tables.
REMEMBER to upload before removing your card, please.
omgosh, another thing i forgot to mention, a woman went balistic at the pursers desk since she said she had over 500.00 on her "slot card" (this was debarkation morning), we could hear her while waiting to leave.
Evidently they make the announcement on the last evening of cruising that you shouldnt forget to "cashout" your slot card/roomkey or you lose your money, i was in the casino every day, for hours, and no one mentioned this to me, i used the slots (which are way to tight i might add, stick to tables!) and would never have known had i not been in the room that night that i needed to empty my account.
I dont know whether or not she got her money back, but someone told me that they dont after the last night, so who knows...
wow; that certainly seems a bit sneaky; I will have to remember that
my question is do you HAVE to use your key card? is this on all Carnival ships?

Yes, you can still use coins, and bills, in the slots. You can also "cash out" in coins without uploading to your card. The ships are only allowed to make casino transactions while they are in international waters. Once in territorial waters they must follow the regulations of that territory (and pay taxes on casino income). That's why you have to cash out the last night of the cruise and the casino is not open in most ports. The rule also applies to casino chips.
I would prefer they issue a different card for slot play since you run the risk of leaving your room key in the slot machine when you get up to leave.
Yes, it is mentioned every 5-10 minutes on the the last night at sea. They mention it often enough that people shouldn't foget..
As for losing the money, well, the only true way to lose it is to walk away from the machine before you check to see if you have no credits left to play. The key to look is for the COL to flash in the credits part of the machine. It will let you know that the money is on the sail and sign card....

I played the slots on Carnival Liberty, and I had no problem at all. I did win a few dollars and had a good time in the casino.

I love slots.... but even as familar as I am with slot play and using casino cards.... before I did any gambling on my first cruise I asked every question imaginable... I wanted to know exactly how was I going to get back my money and would it cost anything etc.
I was fully prepared to cash in my card on the last night. I can't recall how I was reminded... oh yeah I wanted the money...
By the way, I didn't really win, but I loved using my card, and I will definately make another donation soon.
I did read a post on another board from a cruiser that had forgotten to "cash out" on the last night. In fact, he forgot he had any winnings on his Sail and Sign card.
Anyway about 3 weeks later...he got a check in the mail for the money he had forgotten to cash out....so apparently as long as you download it FROM the machine...even if you forget to cash out...they will send you a check.

I donated alot of money to the slots on the Iamgination last week (the dugy sitting next to me won over $2500.00, by the way) The machine, stating two days before we left had a scrolling message that kept reminding you to cash out your card. It was where your name and updated acct balances show up when you first sign on. plus, it was in the Carnival Capers. It was kinda hard not to know.
As far as the machines being tight, I dunno, people all around me were winning fairly big, I must have ticked off the slot machine fairies somehow!

I'm not talking about cashing out your card. What pissed me off was that you had to upload the cash in the machine, put in your pin and make sure it showed a zero balance on the machine. Otherwise your money was gone.
The slot attendants hatted it because there were so many complaints. I lost $60-70 that was and after I ask to speak to some kind of boss they gave me $60 in cash and told me it was goodwill.
This new system sucks and I'm sure it will be changed soon.
Be careful, they get enough by tight slots and bad VP. Good Luck!
