Luggage in Venice

We are going to be in Venice for a night after a cruise in Oct. I have some concerns about dealing with luggage after the cruise. We haven’t decided on a hotel yet.We will try to get one near the terminal to avoid dragging our bags too far. Would it be better to use the train or the busses to get to the airport the next day? How is luggage handled in each case ?I would really appreciate some advice from someone who has done this. A hotel recommendation would be great too.

We have a got hotel La Locanda di Orsaria walking distance from the train station. It is a nice budget hotel and the people were super nice. If you have roll luggage it's really easy to roll it 2 blocks to the hotel. One word of warning there is no elevator in this hotel, so it need it request a room on the ground floor. Also I would order a Venice card they work great for the water buses; the water buses are crowded don't try to take luggage on it.

Here is a link to the hotel it is in what is called "the Fish" this is the main part of Venice and there are no car. Which makes it a nice walking city.

I posted in a hurry. So I missed some things. The train station stop in the main "fish" part of Venice near the hotel is called Santa Lucia. You will see a lot of less expensive hotels in Mestre Venice Italy, this isn't the main Grand Canal part of Venice; if you booked here you would need to take the train into the main part of Venice.. The hotel I recommended is in a small side street called, Calle Priuli dei Cavaletti. You walk towards the bridge and the water bus station and make the first left into a small street. Our cruise ended in Rome and we took the train to Venice. Venice was my favorite place. If you have any questions I will try to answer them.

Thanx again katlady. When were you in Venice? I've read somewhere about a new bridge under constuction across the canal in this area. I was wondering if this was going on while you were there or if it is finished.

We were there May 12 to the 14th, 2008. I don't remember a bridge under construction. We had a Orange Venice Card and were able to take the water bus route DM to Murano island and see the glass blowers at work. Really interesting, they do such wonderful work. The card was also good for admission to the Doge's Palace at St. Mark's square. I wish I had spent more time in Venice there is so much to see.
