Got mine. I know that park. It can get chilly there, not sure the T-shirt idea is going to work.

It is right on the edge of Lake Pontchartrain. If there is a north wind blowing it will come across the lake before getting to us. The problem we have is the high humidity. It makes everything feel colder than what it actually is. Wear a sweat shirt and throw the t-shirt on over it.

Here is a photo someone took of the park. This was taken in Aug 2007. We will have our work cut out for us.

No email for us.

Just emailed Steph to see if we were dropped from the list or what.

If so, we can be found touring the Quarter.

I grew up in this general neighborhood! Had my first "real" date at Southern Yacht Club at West End. (Dennis I still fondly remember that night )

I lived in Lakeview most of my life, I know the area quite well. My son is still "trying to" live in the home I grew up in on Filmore Ave. (he's still trying to rebuild while currently living in a Fema trailer on the property) During Hurricane Katrina this and the surrounding area was under about 10 feet of water on average. I am pleased to know that Beacon of Hope choose an area that has been overlooked by the .... cough .... cough .... "rebuilding" ... cough .. cough ... of New Orleans. Unfortunately I have to work Friday morning and won't be able to participate. Just keep in mind that when I was a child this area was special to me, I am pleased to know that it will be rebuilt so that my grandchildren may also enjoy it.

I remember the submarine races off the jetty. It was hard watching the video of the Southern Yacht club burning after Katrina.

This is the general area (if Carnival got it right):

Some more pictures from the general area from December 2005. I can assure you that boats are still all over the road and that if any heavy work still remains, it isn't left for volunteers to do.

I do wish they would rebuild the old Coast Guard station.

Phil, we did not receive anything, I am wondering if there is an age limit? I understand it if Carnival would not want to assume the liability for older people in the work party. I am not sure if this would apply to you and Liz but Carole and I are both over sixty . No problem, I am sure we can find something to do. Mike

My sister didn't get an e-mail either, but Stephanie said she is on the list and that she sent her an e-mail. Sometimes computers hiccup.

Well, I remember hanging out in that area as well. We used to load the Mardi Gras fountain up with soap! SUDS everywhere! Those were the days! Now the fountain doesn't even have water.
