Default Canadian cruise in June

I'm considering this itenerary for June:

Canada/New England:
New York, NY ; Fun Day At Sea ; Saint John, NB, Canada ; Halifax, NS, Canada ; Fun Day At Sea ; New York, NY

It's a cheap cruise to a place I've never been on a ship I've never sailed on

Can anyone tell me anything about it?
Are there a lot of people, i.e. summer crowds, onboard?

Any/all info. appreciated. Thanks!

Cat, which ship are you referring to? I havent done that trip but what I have heard from previous posters is although its beautiful, the crew tends to take a timeout for some reason. I guess they figure its not on their normal circuit and they mentally check out sometimes. Again, I dont have firsthand knowledge but I remember reading that. Personally if I am going to see the New England states in the fall I would rather be on land and really explore the area!

Triumph...just considering. Haven't decided. I was going to talk to my friend who was a piano player on this itinerary at one time and see what he had to say, but wanted cruisemates opinions too

Another girl from the teen forum might be going on this cruise. She said that her and her mom just wanted a cruise. You might be on the same cruise! =) thats pretty cool but I think a cruise is a cruise you can NEVER go wrong

I'm booked on that itinerary for September 09, 7 days though going to Halifax and St John, but also visiting Boston and Portland Maine.
If any of y'all go, please share your experiences.
Seems like it would be a nice change of scenery ( literally) from the Caribbean.

If the price is low, go for it,. It's allways great to be on a cruise. Furthermore as a New Englanders, we love to have people from other parts of the country come to visit.

I have done this very itinerary two years in a row, once in July and once in August. Being from Mass it was an easy drive to get to the port, much nicer than having to fly. It was the Victory both times I did it but I guess they have moved that ship and replaced it with the Triumph. The Victory was quite nice and we enjoyed it both times. It is very different from a Caribbean cruise in that it is not all about sitting out in the sun. There were times when the fog was so thick you couldn't even see 2 feet in front of you. Halifax and St. John are both lovely and the people are very nice. St. John has the Reversing Falls jet boat ride which is a blast.

Too bad I won't likely see much of it come September. I'll see an airport, a bus ride, and sail out.

Hi Cutiecat,
I am doing this 4 day cruise on June 11. Do you happen to know the best airport to fly into?

Thanks,
Kathy

You can fly into Newark too.

I did this itinerary about a year and half ago. I love cruises and would find it impossible to not have a great time on a cruise ship but this was not my favorite itinerary.

We had a lot of fog issues and the crew said that weather issues were common on this route. In Halifax there was an icredible lobster shack just up from the port that had the BEST lobster roll EVER.

If the prices are even I would do the Carribbean, but like I said impossible to not have a great time on a cruise ship.

Probably Newark. A couple I know did the cruise utilizing Carnival's air and that the airport used.

My DH Dave and I are sailing this itinerary on the Triumph June 15. We're looking forward to a different itinerary from the usual Caribbean, and I hope we have some really good photo opportunities. We're staying in New York for 3 days pre-cruise to have some special siteseeing fun before the cruise.

Default Things to Do in Halifax and St. John on New England Cruise

Hi!
My husband and I are going on the New England/Canada cruise on the Triumph on June 29-July 4 out of New York. We've gone on a few Caribbean cruises and wanted something different. We are interested in nature (hiking), historical places, museums, etc.

I want to go to that Maritime museum, have any of you ever been to it? Also, I like going to antique shops...are there any that you recommend? Are there any pubs/bars in Halifax or St. John that are worthwhile to visit too?

I'd appreciate hearing your opinions.
Thanks,
Sue

Hi Sue!

My partner and I are on this same cruise (first cruise for both of us). We're planning on the tall ship sailing in halifax and then going on our own to the maritime museum. Want to check out Nova Scotia Crystal too if time allows.

Haven't decided yet on what to do in St John.

See ya onboard!

Russ

We have done this cruise a few times. There is nothing like sailing past the statue of liberty and the nyc skyline. Don't miss it.
In Halifax, there is plenty to do. I believe there is a pub crawl. We did the duck one time and Peggy's cove another. Recommend both.
In St John's we took the local bus to the reversing falls. Loved it.
You will find a lot of info on the destination boards.
The only downside is packing a few extra jackets and layering clothing.
Enjoy your cruise
