Default Early Saver, Fun Saver, Past Guest Pricing

Please help me understand the differences between the Early Saver pricing versus Fun Saver pricing versus Past Guest Pricing.

I recently booked a cruise and I thought was the Early Saver pricing and it was the double category upgrade. Paid for 6A receive 6C. Do I look at the 6A pricing that I came in or the 6C category that I was upgraded to?

This is just so confusing.

Let me see if I can help. (That is assuming I understand it to begin with!)

Starting with your first question there are a few different pay catagories. Each has it's own advantages and disadvantages. We're cruising on the Ecstasy in November. I'll use that as the example for pricing. (All prices were pulled from the Carnival Website)

The Fun Saver price is normally referred to as a Guarantee Room. An Ocean View room (OV) will run $409. Your room can be on any deck of the ship, you won't know until it's assigned for you as you near your cruise sail date. You might receive an awesome upgrade.

The Past Guest rate is just that. A discounted rate for folks that are loyal to Carnival. An OV room on the Riviera will cost $389 and you get a two catagory upgrade for free!

The Early Saver is a great deal if you know for a fact you will be on that specific cruise. There is a non refundable deposit required (normally around $200) but, your price for an OV on the Riviera deck is only $309.

To answer your other question....I like to compare apples to apples. So, if I pay the Past Guest of $389 and end up on the Upper Deck with the upgrade (porthole window), I would check on the Early Saver price for the Upper Deck. (For a porthole room on Upper Deck it is $309.) Your Fun Saver rate is $409 but as I said earlier, you might be on the top deck or the bottom. (Any deck is great in my opinion).

The hard part is to decide what is best for you and your family, the easy part is picking a cruise as your best vacation ever! Please let me know if you have any more questions.

I hope this has helped and if anyone else out there wants to chime in, please do so. I just know how confusing the pricing can be.

Enjoy your cruise,

Here it is. I booked 579 early save rate for the riveria deck 6A but got the 2 cat upgrade to the upper deck 6C. This was when they had the last campaing that ended on 1/31 for the upgrades. Now where I am getting TOTALLY confused is this.

The price of the cruise has dropped when comparing the apples to apples - the price we paid was was based on the the Riveria deck pricing (but placed on the upper deck) and now the riveria deck rate is cheaper.

However, now if I am supposed to be comparing the oranges to oranges - we were upgraded to the upper deck 6C category so the price we paid is now equal to the upper deck upgrade we received for free.

If it is now based on the oranges and the price is equal to what we paid, should we now receive a 2 category upgrade to a higher deck since if you look at it price based, we now really did not receive any free upgrade or discount at all now.

I see what you are saying.
If you booked the early saver rate the price is guaranteed. So you can call Carnival and get the current price. The decision they will give you is what deck do you want. Since you booked the Riviera deck before, they should let you rebook on the same deck and receive the discount. However, if you want to remain on the Upper deck it sounds like the price is the same. You know....you could possibly move the Main Deck. It should be a discount and it's still an upgrade from the Riviera!
I would suggest you call your Carnival Planner and discuss all the details and see what they can do. I hope this helps!

Enjoy your cruise,

I just did that.

He said that we are in the 6C category and the 6C's are 579. So no discount. So technically when you look at it.......we paid exactly what category we booked for - the 6C rate. And no past guest 2 category upgrade.

Just one note past guest prices are only on past guest cruises. If you booked on a past guest cruise then you would need to check those prices and not the normal prices. Here is a link to the past guest cruises.

Oops I missed this post. It looks like you got things settled. If the prices comes down on the 6C then you can get some OBC.

I wonder if it is just me, or are the rest of you unimpressed by "free upgrades". Give me a better price on the cabin type I want. IS it really that big of a deal to get to move up two decks? I couldn't care less about which deck I am on so long as I recieved a good rate.
I have been on many different decks and sure some of the higher decks are easier to get to from public spaces, but I don't really care.
Am I alone in my thinking?

I wholeheartedly agree. Whats the diff between deck 4 and 5 other than the $20 or $30 they charge you? The room is the same, the view is the same, the towel animals are the same. Yes you can save some steps going to the upper decks but conversely you are closer to the lower decks which often have the dining room, lounges and casino. So its a crapshoot as they say. I too want to save coin on the deck I want to stay on. Charging more for a floor above you isnt worth it.

Definately unimpresses.

If we would have said "NO don't give us the free upgrade!" we would have gotten a refund on the difference of what we paid for to what the pricing is now. We paid for the riveria deck but they upgraded us to the upper deck. We would have been happy on the riveria deck or anywhere.

My crankiness has paid off. Since I have to base the rates on the 6C - the price has dropped today 90.00 per person. I'm liking it much better now.
