Default Fuel Fees

I know there are no current charges for fuel fees but when they start them again ( and you know they will) why do they charge the same amount for a southern carribean trip with no sea days that starts in San Juan? The total distance traveled cant be more than 500 miles or so but the passengers pay the same as a much longer trip that burns way more fuel. I am guessing its to keep things consistent but it seems grossly unfair. Any thoughts?

You didn't say where in the southern Caribbean you might be going but any seven night cruise round trip from San Juan will definitely cover far more than the 500 miles you mentioned. And too, any fuel they get from San Juan has to be transported to San Juan from somewhere so that probably has a bearing. But, as cheap as oil is now, it may be a while before we have to worry about fuel sur-charges, but you're probably right--at some point in the future it will probably raise it's ugly head again.

I was referring to the 7 ports in 7 days Victory sailing. I still dont think they cover 500 miles but what do I know. If I was paying the $9 a day fuel fee I would be annoyed when folks pay the same for ocean crossings.
