Default ?'s about drinking on-board

I've heard people talk on here before about the "Drink of the Day" special where you can pay $20 or so and get a "Drink of the Day" everyday of your cruise, or for 5 days of the cruise, etc.
What is this? Does anyone have any idea what I'm trying to describe?
I've heard people talk on here about before. The only thing I've seen on Carnivals website is the $21.25 bar credit paper.....
Where would I obtain this "special?"

I'm pretty sure you can only get it once onboard. I don't know if you can only purchase it daily THAT day or if you can do an unlimited drink of the day all week. I do know it's a cool deal if you like mixed drinks..

Everyday carnival will have a drink of the day. If you want to help pay some of your bar bill you can go to the www.carnival.com site and buy
gift certificates which are fun dollars and when you get on the ship you
can have them put those on your sign and sail card as credit, or you
can buy a coupon for 21.25 that is good for four drinks does not have to
be the drink of the day. You can also put cash on on your sign and sail
card when you get on the ship. what ever makes it easy for you.
alot of people buy both so that at the end of the cruise they are not
shocked with their bill.
hope this helps you out..
Have a wonderful time. Have been on the Liberty four times and shes
a very nice ship..

Usually the DoD comes in a "special" plastic serving container (not sure what to call a plastic glass). If you get the Drink of the Day all cruise long you will have quite the collection of stemware.

I'm confused.... Is this something new?
I've heard of "drink of the day" but I thought is was a special priced drink that if you buy it in the special cup, you can fill it up cheaper, or something like that.

Now... are you saying that you can pay $20 per day and drink all the "drink of the days" you want?
Someone please clarify....
Thanks.

On our last cruise the Fascination in Jan. you could buy a "drink card" that was for 5 DOD's... one came in the hurricane glass and rest in a glass that held the same just not the "souvenir" cup. It was $23 and you could order any DOD... not just that day's drink. If you like them it makes them cheaper. we bought 2 for us and ended up giving one with 3 punches to some friends we met onboard. Drank lots of "free" booze and beer in the casino (yes I played a bit) and knew I was not going to use them.

We usually do the drink of the day during sail-away. After that, we are happy with the free drinks from the free tastings, past guest party, and captain’s party.

You only have room for so many plastic cups so save some money after the first one and order them without the souvenir glass.

Default Good Deal

Yes the Drink Specials card is new. I think it's a great deal. $23 for five DotDs. You get one souvenir glass and the refills in a larger glass than a normal cocktail glass. So you save $8.75 and get 25% more drink as well. You also don't have to carry your original souvenir glass around in order to get the refill pricing since you have a card.

Oh I see... yeah.... I don't have the kind of money to play with it would take to actually start getting free drinks...

After the first night it was theirs I was playing with... did well the first night and they tried to get it back the rest of the cruise...
ended up ahead and my wife won the bingo cruise so it's about the best we ever done on a cruise.

How much do you have to play to get freeze booze at the casino? I have been on 7 cruises and I never saw anyone get drinks comped.

Sounds like a sweet deal. So you can buy one at any bar, like the soda cards??

Okay, new question... do you have to buy a new card each day or do they work like the drink coupons where they are good for any day you are on the ship. (in other words they carry over from day to day)

Also, when you say "any dod" do you mean on monday you can order a drink of the day they are going to have on friday? Even though they havn't served them yet?

Okay, I'm not really consumed by alcohol....

The card is good for five drinks, you can drink them anytime you wish. All in one day or one a day for five days or whatever. It must be the drink of the day for that day OR a Funship Special on any day. I found it perfect to use when in the theater during a show as you don't have to sign anything in the dark as you would with a S&S card.

I mention the card in my Fantasy review I just put on the thread.

When we bought the card it was in the same line as the soda card... I asked if tax was included since we had not left the pier and was told that only was for the soda card. It was $23.... plus the 15% tip. The card was good for the DOD on the first day. After each day it was good for that DOD or and other DOD that had been done. In fact at the casino bar you could get ANY DOD that is offered on the ship. That bar seemed to give the best drink for the money. The glasses that are used after the first are LARGE wine glass like with a stem and hold as much if not more than the souvenir glass.
If you are going to drink one DOD a day it is worth it.

Alright so just to clarify and re-cap

The Drink Special card is $23 plus the 15% tip which = $26.45 for FIVE drinks.
You can buy this card at any bar and get the DoD special for that day, or any that have already been done.

I have my plastic glass from my last cruise. I wonder if I can just bring that on my next cruise and get the discounted refill price. ....

Correct, the any other DoD must be up to the bartender as they told me the drink of that day or the Funship. i.e. the ones they have already premixed. Having said that the bartender made me the one DoD I had missed by several days from scratch. All of the DoD's are pretty good and they usually have the FunShip Special premixed. I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem.

Yes, but you'd only save on that 1st drink, not #2-5.

Well.... if you have to ask.... lol

I won a good bit the first night and then played with their money... but I was playing $25 or more a hand most of the time. Never paid for a drink in the casino and most of my wife's were comped also... and I left with more than I came on with.

I had one hand on the 3 card where I went blind with $100 on pairs plus and $200 each on the 2 back hands... dealer qualified with a pair of queens... there goes the money... except I had a STRAIGHT!!! Paid $600 just on the pairs plus. I got up and went to the room for while on that one.

Yeah I was shocked too that drinks aren't free in the casino. I go to Vegas a few times a year. Then went on my first cruise back in October. Got a round of drinks then the lady came back and asked for my S&S card so she could charge it. I was like "WTF? They're not free? I am gambling!"
I didn't get anymore after that.

RockChick I packed one clear drink of the day glass from a previous cruise and did exactly like you wondered about. Yes it worked at least on the Glory. They took the glass on the first try and filled it and I used my left over drink coupon set that said 5.95 a drink from a past cruise so they worked also even though the drinks cost more. But I did measure what was in plastic cups and the plastic cups held exactly the same amount and you don't have to lug the big glass around. I did it just to try it and I stuffed some little things in it in the suitcase so it served a purpose.
