They did away with the midnight Gala buffet as of 9/1/08.

Some still have a late night Mexican or other type buffet on lido deck.

They did have a chocolate fountain buffet on Liberty and a Mexican midnight buffet but only one time each. I was told by a staff member that the reason they stopped the mega-buffets at midnight was because there was too much waste- people came down and gawked at the ice-carvings and fancy fruit but no one ate much and they ended up tossing too much food.

They were still doing the chocolate buffet as a part of the Taste of Nations on the Conquest. Last sea day.

She's just the most convenient and best value for me. Cruises from Galveston are a little more pricey right now, but still better than travel $ to another port.

For Texans the Rhapsody used to be that way, now for lack of another choice it has become the Conquest. Carnival knows they have a sweet thing there.

What exactly is the Chocolate Buffet?
I'm going on the Conquest for the first time this August. As for the Gala Buffet, I agree that it is probably a lot of waste. After a full day of eating, I mainly look and take a few bites just to try out new desserts. Actually, on 1 cruise, while I baby sat the kids...and slept, my wife brought a bunch of good food from the Gala back and I had it for breakfast. It was still great!!!

One of the buffet stations (Taste station) will be serving selections of items made from chocolate. Most are candies and desserts, but also a lot of different items. It may not last long either as people pile up their plates then only eat a little. A lot of waste. I'm not a chocolate guy so others may describe this very differently.

Everyone should try it once which was enough for me.

Re: The Gala Midnight Buffet.
Its gone, it was not a food event, it was a photo op. And the food was wasted.

What remains?

A midnight [11:30] deck party, ONE NIGHT only by the pool.

The regular 'bistro' buffet has one or 2 lines open at 11:30 EACH evening for people who actually want to eat.

PLUS

They set up a 'midnite snacks' on the Promenade deck by the casino.

AND

There is 24 hour free room service.

Very little danger of any of us starving!!

Dan

I don't blame them if that were the case. I would see the same thing.....no need to waste good food.

Thoth, do you live near Crater Lake? I do, I live in Medford Ore. I love it up there, especially in the winter when it is all white and then you look at that vivid blue lake, it is just georgeous.

They said that they would actually throw out about 1 1/2 days supply of food doing those galas. That is a lot of food to waste.

Does anyone know when the chocolate buffet is on the Liberty? I know they have one but just am not sure one. Confirmed chocoholic here. Will pile up plate with chocolate and eat every bit(putting on about 100 lb.).

Brad
You are SO in trouble. Carnival offers their Chocolate Melting Cake every night in the dining room. I am not into chocolate, but this is divine. Order it with vanilla (or chocolate) ice cream and you will be in chocolaholic heaven.

On the Valor, they had chocolate buffet on a sea day during the day for lunch.

I plan to order a different desert every night. Very much a person who enjoys sampling different foods.

Me, too, I love sampling. But, just trust me on this one, okay. I now have the recipe for the choc cake!
