Default Atlantis question...

Hey all -

This will be my first cruise in May on the Fascination. I have been looking at the excursions - and I would relly like to go to Atlantis. Not really to swim or tour - but to play at the casino. So instead of paying the 89 for the "beach trip", can I just catch a cab there? Will Atlantis let me in to play in the casino without charging me a fee?

Thanks in advance!

We were on a spring break cruise a couple of years ago there. My friends and I had several drinks at Senor frogs and then caught a water taxi over to where Atlantis is and wandered around. We didn't gamble but def. walked around inside the casino and several parts of Atlantis. Some places we needed a pass to go, some we didn't.

there is a flat fee for the cab ride; $4.00 per person I think. and you can go in and tour the general area; see some of the aquarium and play in the casino...
since we did just that in Feb I would recommend; eating a good breakfast on board and not rushing to get to the casino; it is very laid back and teh bars/lounges were not open for drink service until later in the day. we overheard people complaining that it was very expensive to eat there.
The slots were fairly friendly, not many tables were open; in fact, I don't think anyone was playing the tables. we were there from around 9:30 am - 10:30 am (I think, I know it was well before lunch time); too early.

In Bahamas at Nassau you are docked; walk on/off the ship; not tender service; if you are asking about the times for the water taxis, I have no clue as to when they are open;

water taxis run all day... its more fun and not more expensive than a cab ride. I found they do try to hustle you for tips at the end though. They played tour guide along the way so I guess they feel like we should tip them. I didnt.

You can play in the casino at the Atlantis but expect higher minimums at the tables.

Depending on your level of play you might find the Crystal Palace at the Wyndham resort a better casino. The table minimums are lower and the drinks are come quicker. It's 1.25pp for the jitney(bus) or $5 for a cab ride.

The blocked off parts require a rist band or room key. The casino is not blocked off, just the pools water park, aquarim, that stuff.

Have a great cruise!

Thanks sooo much for the update guys!

Ok - Bob - if we go to the Wyndham - would we possibly have access to the beach area. ( You gave me loads of info last week - and sure has been helpful in calming my fears! )

Here is the situation. My mom and my aunt are going with me and my husband. ( Yeah - I know, I am crazy. But I feel like I need to take her away.. ya know? ) They are bing into the casino thing. My husband and I have never played in a casino. So - I would like to be able to go with them to the casino - and leave them for a while - while the husband and I go check out the beach.

Is that possible at the Atlantis or the Wyndham?

I see where Carnival has an "excursion" to Atlantis for "beach Atlantis" - for 89 bucks a person. That includes a ride there - a ride back - access to the beach with towels and lunch. After you guys filling me in - it sounds like a rip off! I also see an "excursion" to another Wyndham resort - but it doesn't have a casino.

So.... would you guys mind tellimg me what YOU would do.

Thanks again for your help and input!!!

the beach access and lunch is not free if you just go to Atlantis; so for 2 of you it would be worth it; for the 2 just going into the casino it would not be worth it;

Wyndham is $40 for a "day pass" that includes a lunch buffet. If 2 are just going to play then they would not need it... plus depending on play they may be "comped" to a wristband or lunch. Between the 2 casinos (Atlantis/Crystal Palace) I much prefer the Crystal Palace/Wyndham.

Whatever you decide,have a REALLY good breakfast before you get off the ship. And take an apple or banana or some kind of snack with you. The food and beverage prices at Atlantis (don't know about the Wyndham)
are absolutely outrageous. Like $10 for a beer,$15 for a Ceasar Salad. Crazy. But an interesting resort to walk around-neat aquarium. The casino will welcome you with open arms-they want your money!

In Jan. we went and because of my level of play in the casino I was "comped" a room for the day/night. In fact they wanted me to spend 4 nights and would have comped the whole thing... They even offered $300 for flight back if I wanted to leave the ship...
As for the resort I would highly recommend it. It has something for everyone and will not break the bank. The pool is nice, has a slide (nothing like Atlantis) swim up bar, huge hot tub, manmade beach that's waterfront, chairs, volleyball, water sports, etc... plus you have use of the Sheraton next door. The room we had fronted on the pool and the casino was down the elevator. I really liked it and plan on going back.

Now that is not to say that Atlantis is not good... it is nice and would be a great vacation.... Just EXPENSIVE!
Even with the downturn in the economy the Atlantis does not want to drop very much. Parts of it were shut down recently... not sure with spring break whether it is still so.

Quote:

DO NOT DO THIS!!! It is HIGHLY illegal to take food off the ship and if caught you could find yourself in jail.... DO NOT BRING anything back on the ship and bring into the US...BAD!!!!!

When arriving at the resort go to the Front Desk (which BTW is nowhere near the front... it is thru the casino near the rear exit.) and ask for a day pass.

One thing to remember - even people staying at the resort pay a "resort fee" of $15pp above the cost of the room.

bob sounds great;
what got me interested was Atlantis has rolled out some commercials recently so I thought maybe they would get some competitive pricing; well NOT! I looked at their website; even with their specials it is not feasible to stay at their resort; just too expensive (tried pricing it with the food package and without the food package etc);

There is one other alternate... The Comfort Suite:
http://www.comfortsuites.com/hotel-p...-bahamas-BS003

You have full privileges at Atlantis and is across the street from the Atlantis. You can go to the slides, aquarium, you can charge to your room... you just are staying at the cheap cousin's house. lol
Check your dates... I would suggest 1/2 days at CS and then finish up at Wyndham or vice-versa.
