Default Easter Sunday Mass on Splendor

Hi. Does anyone know how I can find out if Mass will be offered on the Splendor on April 12th Easter Sunday? That's the day our cruise leaves! Thanks in advance. I'm learning so much from this board. Love the packing tips. Mary

I don't think so unless they have a priest or pastor onboard. I don't think they bring them on. They would have to find 22 people to do it since they have 22 ships.

Because Easter is the embarkation date I would not risk it. We did have an Easter service on the Star Princess in 2003. But Easter was not the embarkation date.

And not everyone on board is Catholic (or religious for that matter).

That is true, however, some are and would like services to be offered. The OP did not single out a certain religion. It's intereting you picked Catholic. As I'm Catholic I will tell you what I know about how services are handled by the Catholic church.

The Cruise ships use the Apostleship of the Sea of the United States to find Priests for Catholic services. For those who are wondering there is an offical cruise priest manual. You really can find anything on the internet.

I was reading the manual and this was interesting. On my last cruise the used the money collected to help the locate community and in fact named the charity at the time of collection. I can't remember now memory isn't what it was.

Quote:
Money
No solicitations of funds for any cause are acceptable, except for the approved Mass collections.

Each cruise line has its own policy regarding collections at Mass. For those that have collections at Mass, the funds are pre-arranged to be distributed to various Catholic apostolic works.

You may want to call and ask them, Carnival would be able to answer that question for you.

Since you don't board until afternoon and the doesn't sail until 4PM, it is unlikely that any services will be provided. The more likely case might be a small service for those debarking that morning. If you are spending the night in the Long Beach area I suggest you seek out a church of your choice to celebrate Easter.

Rock Chick - not everyone on a cruise celebrates Easter (it was odd seeing women covered in Middle Eastern garb at a Christmas show on Glory) but that doesn't stop cruise lines from providing services to a minority of pax. It is not unlike a wedding - not everyone is involved but they have them. Or not everyone is gay, yet they set aside times & places for Friends of Dorothy.

I wasn't trying to make anyone mad.
Anytime I've ever heard a service called MASS it's just always been associated with Catholics.
I was raised a southern Baptist and was pushed into the church so bad as a kid that it's made me hate religion altogether now.
I might've been having a bad day when I posted that. Sorry if it made anyone mad.

No worries you didn't make me mad. I'm married to a non religous man. He sleeps in when I go to church. I don't push my religous benefits on anyone. I felt the OP had a vaild cruising question. One I had myself before my first cruise. I also thought the manual was an interesting read.
