Default Early saver question

Can you book a GTY under the early saver program or do you have to pick a cabin? We normally book a GTY and hope for an upgrade. But I like the idea and prices of early saver.

I thought the point of booking a gty was to save money, and pray you get a decent cabin....
With the early saver, you save money and get to pick the cabin... I think it's a perfect arrangement... 8) and by the way, I spoke to my TA about an upgrade and she led me to believe it's still possible even though I picked the cabin. I hope she knows what she's talking about because an upgrade for me would be a suite....

It seems that Carnival is really pushing upsells versus upgrades since they started the Early saver program.
At least from all the reports of upsells calls on the cruise message boards I frequent.
Some of the upsells being offered are incredible no brainers.
(like OV on main deck to floor to ceiling OV on Spa deck for additional $30 a day. MUCH better windows and much better deck for $30 a day!)

You select a cabin with the early saver fare as far as I am aware. Before I booked I studied the deck plans and went part of the way through the booking process to see what was available in the category I chose. Still, wouldn't mind getting a free upgrade(to an oceanview from a cat. 1A which would probably be the maximum possible for me) though I doubt it will happen.

Which ship and is it a Cat 12? Cat 12s are nice. Here is a suite on the Carnival Truimp. I know it's a suite because of the tub.

Sorry about that Joecat I will explain. It means guarantee. For example; I could book a 6A guarantee room. Which is an oceanview room on a lower deck. Then if the cruiseline had empty cabins in a higher catogory they might upgrade me to a higher deck on the ship (6E) and in very rare instances they may upgrade to a better catogory (8A balacony). One time I was upgraded from a 6A GTY to a Catorgory 11 on a fanasty class ship (fanasty class ships don't have 8A rooms). Most times I got a high deck, if the cruise if full I got what I paid for.

But it seems to book early saver cruise fare you have to select a cabin and not get a guaranteed cabin. The price match and On Board Credit (OBC) would make it worthwhile. I never got OBC booking GTY.
