Default carry-on beer?

My son is cruising on the Holiday in May, and he would like to know if they allow you to bring a 12 pack or 2 of beer along with you? When we cruised the Conquest last year, we brought a couple of packs of softdrinks, but not beer, so I am not sure if they will allow? I know the answer is probably buried here on the boards somewhere, but I didn't happen to find it...Thanks for any response!

No, you are not allowed to carry on beer, only soda pop. BTW....Beer does fit in a soda 12 pack carton too!

From what i have read, you are only " allowed " 1 750 ml bottle of wine. I have also read stories of putting it in there bags and the beer passing through. If they find it , they will just take it

There was a very informative program on CNBC the other night about the cruise industry. The host of the show traveled with NCL and documented the entire cruise from beginning to end and explained how the cruise lines make their money. Obviously the biggest money maker was cabin sales, followed by beverage sales, shore excursions, casino, etc. Interestingly enough the entertainment does not generate any direct income as the shows are free. Now that I have rambled on, let me get to my point, if passengers were able to carry unlimited drinks onboard, the loss will be made up somewhere. Cruise rates would rise, it may even lead to charging for entertainment. After all the cruise industry is a business and needs to make money. Can you by a car without tires because you have some? Can you buy a shirt without buttons because you have your own? No you can't. I for one would rather pay a little more for beverages and less for the cruise itself. I hope we all would and let the consumers of mass quantities of beverages help pay our way. Leave the beer on shore.

People can and do "sneak" beer on board... If flying a little harder but I have heard that people bring an extra suitcase for softdrinks and other beverages. If you buy the 16 oz. alum. cans of bud/bud lignt/ultra/miller lite/etc. you will fit right in. NO GLASS!!!! If you do get 12 oz. cans just drink them in the room or put in a glass.

Many will not like this, but it's the truth. You can get away with bringing liquor in your checked luggage, although the cruise lines clearly state it is against their policies, prohibited, etc...

No bottled beer will get through or be allowed. Rum Runners are plastic leak-proof collapsible flasks that are preferred for liquor. You can also just by a bottle of whatever you drink, duct tape lids, seal in big zip-locks and bubble wrap, but, trust me, go with a rum runner. Cheap, easy, weightless and reusable.

Canned beer gets through fine in a suitcase, although they sell softside insulated, leakproof coolers with wheels that look exactly like luggage and you just ice it down when you get onboard. On all but 2 cruises, our room steward unpacks the beer, throws away the packaging and has it ice before we get to our cabin on the first day-and keeps it iced thereafter.

Just so you know, I book balconies and enjoy late night bear or sea day beer/drinks out there. I also buy a LOT of their booze because it's not convenient to go to my room to get a beer or drink. Average tab is $50-$100 per day depending on how many ports the cruise has.

I attempted to bring 3 extra plastic bottles of Bud Light from the evening before through my carry on, and as one fell out right in front of security, they confiscated it, in addition to the other 2. My friend, who was right next to me, passed through without question with a bottle of wine.

It's really how much room do you have... I took a case of water... they used to let you put a luggage tag on the water and it would show up in your room... but now it has to be in a piece of luggage. You can carry it on but who wants to lug a case of water (or soda) around until your cabin is ready?

Not true on the water as we checked 2 cases of water to our room with our luggage on the last three cruises all in the last 6 months.

These thread always go off in different directions. Carnival allows one bottle of wine per person over 21. Taking beer or other types of acohol on board are in violation of your ticket contract.

However, you can purchase beer buckets once on board. I'm not a beer drinker so I don't know the cost of these. I know you can per order bottles of acohol to be delievered to your room by directly calling the Bon Voyage department. I don't know if beer is included in this. My suggestion is to call the Bon Voyage department directly and ask about beer packages here is the phone number 1-800-522-7648. I hope that helped.

That is because one bottle of wine per person is permitted on Carnival. This is not the case on Royal.

May be different ports... In Jan. out of Jacksonville and last March out of PC they did not allow cases of water to be checked.

Is it really worth the trouble of lugging that beer on board? I would just assume buy a beer bucket, as someone else said.

Okay I wasn't sure about the beer, because I'm not a beer drinker. It is to bad they don't do a beer package. People would pre order beer if they did.

Well, some think so as a 16oz beer with tip ends up being around $6-$7 if you order it at the bar... be very careful because as I have learned the hard way if you order at the bar it is considered a "rush order" and they will add another 15% to 20% on the cost and then the 15% "tip" and then just slide it to you for you to sign. I had bought several beers this way and then asked why it was higher than the price list... got this mumbo-jumbo about being a "rush". I looked that bartender in the eye and said "bull$h%t"... and stopped buying beer at that bar. What a rip-off.

I haven't had the "rush" charge ever. But there is a 15% tip added. Most people don't know that this is optional and if you read the fine print on your receipt it tells you that. I've continued to pay it even after learning that, but you can remove it at the time of each purchase...of course, I'm guessing your service may begin to $ucK!

I found out when I signed a receipt that was for $7.19 and then looked at it... $5.25 base price with $1 for "rush" and then 15% tip on that.... I asked what the $1 was for and was told that they had to stop serving the waiters to get my beer and that was the "rush"... that's when the "bull$h%t" came out.
I went back to the room and found about 6 slips that had the same "rush" fee. ALL were at the bar on Lido deck.... Just a warning....

Great to know... since we will be dropped off and it is close to home I will take a case with the luggage tag taped to it and see.... worse that can happen is that I will have a case at home.

BTW can I ask a couple of questions?
I see your ship left at 10pm... what time could get on?
Did you enjoy the trip... how was the ship?
Thanks... and SORRY for kidnapping the thread!!!
