Default What should I expect to spend?

I am trying to figure out what I should expect to spend for extras? What should I allow for per day for my DH and myself while on the ship? We plan on taking a few cokes w/us so, we should need the "soda card". What do you normally spend/allow for?

Thanks

Your onboard account will be a minimum of $140 for the gratuities. After that you will pay for your drinks, excursions, specialty restaurant and spa.

I allocate $100/day for my expenses. This allows me to cover the gratuities (tips), drinks, sodas, restaurant and any other expenses I run up. This about $700 for the week. Others can get by with half that amount and others will easily double it. The Spa can be expensive and the more wine and drinks you have the higher your bill will be. My wife will usually have two or three drinks a day and I have a Coke whenever I want one. We also have one or two bottles of wine on a one week cruise.

This does not account for my onshore spending or gambling. Use your credit card onshore, take only the cash you need for the day when you go ashore and set a fixed amount for your gambling and you should be OK.

Take care and have a great cruise,
Mike

Well first thing is tips. $10 per day per person, so for two people on a seven day that is $140. Drinks are about $5.50 (for the fancy stuff) and bingo is like $20. If you gamble then include money for that. Also I would get one fountain card to share, which should be about $6.5 per day. If the ship has a special restuarant that will cost about $30. I would do the restuarant once during the cruise the steaks were amazing on Freedom. So per day for tips, 2 drinks, bingo, restuarant, and soda. About $77.5 per day this does not including Shore Excursions or gambling. All the numbers are my best guesses and maybe a little higher or lower. I would per order and pay the Shore Excursion and bring $100 per day per person or $1400 for a seven day. You may not use all this money, but better safe than sorry.

The cruise lines have many ways of separating you from your money. It's just a matter of how much of it you want to give them. As Mike and Katlady have said, please remember your tips they are an important part of the crew's income. Everything you spend on board will go on your Sign & Sail account which can be put on a credit card, so you don't need cash for that. (I think the casino may be the exception to the rule.) Depending on your itinerary and comfort level you might be booking shore excursions through the ship. Check these out on Carnival.com. You may want to book them on-line pre-cruise. They will show up on the S&S account as an expense and a credit.

Other things you can spend money on:
Photos, art auction, golf simulator, internet, souvenirs, gold by the inch all sorts of things.

Your cash expenses will be mostly on shore; excursions, shopping, dining.

The maitre d' is not included in your S&S tips. They will remind you of this and you can choose whether and how much to tip him/her on the last night.

Enjoy your cruise.

Thanks for all the info. Guess I should have added that we are taking our own wine (one bottle each). We are going on the Inspiration 5 day. We have already paid for tips ($100 when we booked). Can't wait

HI.... We generally figure about 100.00 per day. We tip on our own and go to the Purser's desk when we board and have them remove the tips from our account. We like tipping at the end of the cruise, that's just how we do it? I know we generally spend less then 100.00 per day but like the other poster said its better to estimate high. I like to play Caribbean Stud Poker, it's a slow way to lose some money and once in awhile you might come out ahead! We also bring our own wine onboard as well as a bottle of Rum in our check luggage so we can make a drink or two that way.

Hope this information helps, as well as what the others have suggested.

Enjoy your cruise;

Lee & Kelli

Great minds think alike. We were writing our posts at the same time and both started with auto tips. I also rounded to up to $100 per day per person.

If you drink the wine in the dining room they will charge you a corkage fee. I think that is $15 per bottle.

I seem to have a free wallet when I go for a cruise. I don't mind donating to the casino and the shops are just to tempting to NOT pass up. I won't go into the Spa, that is a nice place to go, but my S&S usually gets a big hit when I do go! (but I love getting a pedicure!) My typical S&S is around $1500, for one person. I usually bring at least $2000 cash for shopping and casino. I rarely come home with more than $300......

I can't resist shopping or spending..I am on holidays, so I go crazy!!

I see where you guys say tips - 10 bucks a day per person....

My TA said that our tips/gratuities are included in our fee... Is this common?

Check your cruise docs. You can choose to pre-pay your tips, that may be what your TA did on your behalf. They may have done it as part of getting your business.

I often start out the cruise with a $20 tip to the cabin steward, then if they do a great job I leave the automatic tip on the sail and sign card. So far I have had no need to reduce the final tip. They have all been great.

For us the shore excursions are the highest cost during the cruise. Since we have become accustom to a lot of the ports we often strike out on our own. Still need cash for taxis, souvenirs, shopping, spur of the moment tours, admission to the local sites, and samples of the local food. Either way plan for $100 pp at each port, more if you have a special excursion in mind. For instance, swimming with the dolphins can run $150 to $250 but then they have videos and photographs available at the end and who can pass up lasting memories of something you may only do once in your life.

Remember that haggling when shopping is normal even in the formal jewelry stores. Don’t pay asking price for anything.
