Default Carnival Spirit

I am thinking booking on her for October 2010, out of San Diego down to Manzanillo, Ixtapa, and Acapulco..
Can anyone give me any info on the ship? Has she been refurbished?
Has anyone gone on this itinerary? It sounds really interesting

Spirit has just been refurbished and should be in excellent shape.
Have not done that particular itinerary but love cruising out of San Diego.

You are going to love this ship. Before my wife passed away in 2007, dear Susan and I took this same cruise in November 2005. The decor on this ship is the best, in my opinion, compared to other Carnival ships.

The ship, at 88,500 tons, (mid-size these days), it's easy to get around to all public areas. Another nice feature is the main dining room is located at rear of ship and you never have to worry about going around the kitchen area as it is located below two level dining room.

This is the only class of ship Carnival has that features exteded balconies which are 50% larger than standard balconies. Try and book one as dear Susan and I certainly enjoyed ours on this ship. Much more room to move about.

Enjoy the Spirit and your cruise!

We are booked in Nov for the same cruise.. on the Spirit. We did this cruise in 2006 and loved the Spirit so much we booked Alaska on her in 2007. Did Carnival install a large screen on the Lido deck like the Conquest? Any changes when they refubished? We have a balcony booked on the aft, which I love.

I love the Pride, it is one of my favorite ships. I did this itinerary last year and I absolutely fell in love with Mazenillo. It has become one of my favorite places. We took a private taxi and he was great took us all over the island. We went down to the square and went to a bar that is the oldest on the island. Can't remember the name, I just remember it was across the street from the square in a corner. They were absolutely great, there was four of us and I think we had 8-10 drinks and our bill was only like $21.00 and they fed us just wonderful appetizers for no cost. They were very friendly and treated us as if we were in their home. In Acupulco we used Rosie for our tour, she is great and will design your tour anyway you want it. We went to see the cliffdrivers as well as all around the island. It was great, I think on my next visit I will visit the breaches they looked great. Rosie can set up a beach tour as well.

We did the same itinerary on the Spirit. Booked with Rosie in Acapulco and highly recommend her. Email me and I will send you her email address. We will be with her again this trip. Manzanillo we did a tour of the ruins and a artistic villiage. In Zihuatanejo/ixtapa we did a beach day on our own.

I heard great things about Acapulco. I would love to see the cliff divers. Maybe I should look for 2010.

The Spirit was just in drydock in March. There are no plans for the Spirit class to get the seaside theaters.

The Spirit is a great ship. I was on her in 2007 and taking an Alaska cruise on the Spirit this summer.

Default just off the sprit in early april

Hi,

We just got off the Spirit in April. we were the first cruise after the dry dock. she is a beautiful ship. we had an aft balcony and absolutley loved it.

the itenerary was fabulous, lots to do in all the ports, we loved ixtapa/zihuatenejo, but all were great.

the ship itself is in marvelous shape now, the kids enjoyed the mini golf, there was no large tv on teh lido like other carbival ships, but it was still great. the crew were also very terrific.

enjoy her, you will love it

Maria

I can't wait = I sail on her in about 28 days!!! I went on her in 2005 and it was great - didn't even know she was drydocked this past march! What upgrades did they do? I have an aft cabin also!

Default Spirit dry dock update

Hi there,

From what I understand these were the things that were done in drydock:
(Infor came from another post)
carpet has been changed. New tile laid on Lido deck.
New Plasma TV's installed around the ship serving as touch screen info monitors by the Guest Services desk, Shore Ex Desk, Casino, and the Spa. 2 Plasmas placed outside at the Fantail for viewing sports, movies, etc. No guest cabin T/V's were changed.
The casino has been rearranged with a second Poker Pro table added along with new Slots.
Circle C was added. Camp Carnival was revived they added space by taking down a galss bubble that enabled you to look up into the camp from the arcade.
Paint on the outside.... that's about it.

We will be sailing on the Spirit on 11 Nov 09 to celebrate our 31st anniversary. This will be our second cruise and will be traveling with several other couples (from our work and from our previous cruise on the Elation in Nov 2008). There will also be some couples traveling with us from one of the roll calls on "another web board." We are very excited about this cruise. A chance to get away again and also to meet friends from previous cruises/new acquaintances.

We are curious though about this cruise.....for some reason or another almost all of the Acapulco excursions (with the exception of about two or three) are being listed as having to be "purchased while onboard." This seems somewhat odd. None of the other ports of call are doing this and normally purchasing online is the rule rather than the exception....sent an email to pur PVP, and am awaiting a response from her. We would prefer to book online in advance and spend our well deserved vacation time onboard doing FUN things, versus waiting in a line to book an excursion.

You will be able to - give it time. Mine said the same thing. You can't purchase until about 4 months out - and then they trickle in. You will have a GRAND time!
