We stayed at the Wyngate Inn in Orlando. It is a wonderful hotel. Best place to take a walk to Restaurants. So many to choose from and a nice walk too. Pretty landscapes to see. The rooms are so nice. the beds were so comfortable that we didnt want to leave. Very clean and the front desk were so nice to talk to. One of the best experiences we have had with Hotels before our cruises.... The prices are not too bad either...
Check out the Embarkation Ports or Hotels boards, I think there are probably some pretty good suggestions there. Coming from Tampa, I assume you want to come all the way over to Cocoa Beach. There's a Ron Jon's Resort almost across from the port. If you do a little hunting you might find somebody who will let you leave your car so you don't have to pay parking at the port. Check out [url=http://www.cocoabeach.com}the Cocoa Beach[/ur] website too. (Cape Canaveral is the city immediately south of the port - but they are pretty much considered as one.)

I would recommend the Hampton Inn on A1A; swimming pool, free breakfast and a nice walkway to the beach. Or the most popular hotel is the Radisson at the Port; great pool but it does get crowded with cruisers. We have stayed at both for cruises and class reunions (I was raised there ). They both have a Park and Cruise package with transportation to the port. We always have a nice dinner the night before at Grills at the port. Enjoy!

I believe all the hotels share a shuttle to the port. Taxis are a little expensive and distances are pretty large in Port Canaveral, so look for a hotel that is close to restaurants and whatever attractions you think you might want to see.
BTW: Kennedy Space Center is a fantastic way to spend a day. Plan to spend a full day there.

I live in Jacksonville, but have sailed out of Port Canaveral several times on the Carnival Glory and HIGHLY recommend the Radisson at the Port, they have a "Cruise and Stay" program which allows you to stay at hotel, and then day of embarkation they let you park your vehicle on the hotel property and will transport you to the ship. They do not provide you a ride back, BUT if you are on the pier with your luggage and the bus and trailer from the Radisson shows up dropping off the next sailings passengers, with a little "tip" the driver let up load up our luggage and catch a ride back tothe hotel. He would have been going back empty anyway so he never went out of his way to give us the ride back and the little "tip" was about half of what a taxi would have cost
when cruising from Port Canaveral we stay at the Marriott it is convenient and they transport you to and from the Port and allow you to park your car there free for the week or the length of the cruise.
Yes, the parking is free at the Radisson while you are on your cruise. You will have to move your car to a lot specifically for that, but it is located adjacent to the hotel.
The Raddison was the best, you could see the top of ships from the hotel the food and the free shuttle to the ship was really a plus.

We stayed at the Country Inns and suites. It was so close-the next morning you could see our ship (Glory) over in the port waiting on us! It was a park and cruise special. More reasonable price than the Radison.

Parking is actually not free. The park and cruise packages are about $30 to $40 more than just booking a room for the night. This is still convenient and a great savings than parking at the port.
