We are planning a cruise and it leaves from Fort Lauderdale. Wondering if we should find hotel close to airport or closer to the port. No idea how far it is from airport??? ANY INFO HELPS! Also any recomendations for hotels... We like to have a nice place to stay the night before the cruise. Nice neighborhood to walk in and somewhere there is a place to go eat our dinner and breakast before we go to port in the morning. we love to go to Denny's for breakfast. Its one of our traditions. hehehehe Thanks for any help..
Extended Stay America 17 St Causeway. That is the bridge you see off the bow when the ship is heading north to make the right hand turn out of port. You can walk to the causeway and see the ships and take pics. Grocery store is a cab ride a couple blocks inland on 17th for supplies. Starbucks across the street....be carefull crossing the street its a busy one. I think they offer a shuttle service to the port.
Do not stay at the Wyndum (sp)...not close to anything at all and dumpy

I got a really good deal at La Quinta which is about 10 miles from the port. Free shuttle service, from airport and to the ship. and tons of restaurants and things to do within walking distance of the hotel.
17th St. Causeways is THE most convenient place to stay...Holiday Inn, Hyatt Place, formerly Ameriuites, Embassy suites, Bahia Mar, and many more places to stay...
Right across the side street from Hyatt Place is....
Southport Shopping Center, located close to the Fort Lauderdale Beach and Port Everglades, boasts over 48 specialty shops and restaurants, including: Publix, a local grocery store chain; Carriage Clothiers, Ltd., an upscale men's clothing store; and Nature's Remedy, a health food store and juice bar. It's a great "one stop shopping" center where you can purchase a variety of items including groceries, clothing, accessories, gifts and of course, Florida souvenirs.

Just got home from there. the airport is only 5 minutes to the ship and cost us $13.00 each way. Only $6.50 plus tip per couple.Carnival wanted $15.00 each person one way for there bus.
