Default Itinerary changes-suggestions for Nassau beach excursions

We don't cruise until May 14th but I'm getting the distinct impression that we will be rerouted to Nassau since that's where Imagination and Destiny are being rerouted to now. Has anyone done the Blackbeard's Cay excursion thru Carnival? We were supposed to do this in fall 2006 but our ship had mechanical difficulties. Does anyone else have any suggestions or might it be worth the money to spend the day at Atlantis. Any other recommendations even if they aren't beach recommendations..... Can anyone recommend any private excursions as opposed to Carnival-sponsored excursions....

I've been to Nassau a couple times; via cruise and via a land vacation. I absolutely love Atlantis! You don't need to book through Carnival; in fact, I wouldn't. We got off the ship, hailed a shuttle van (8-seater) to Atlantis for $5/pp. It's like a 10 min ride. Once at Atlantis, you can just walk around, admire the grounds and aquatic life or you can pay $55 (that was in 2007) and tour the caverns of fish and ruins in the hotel and also have access to their beach, pools, and lagoon for the day. If you do this, you walk inside Atlantis, towards the caverns and there are podiums for you to purchase admission barcelets for the day. It was well worth the money! They also have a casino but I cannot bring myself to spend the day inside when it's a once in a lifetime opp to see Atlantis. I figure, I will never be able to afford to stay there, so this is the only way I was going to be able to see it.

Good luck!
