Default Ideas for Key West?

Our itinerary just changed (Valor May 10th) and we are now going to Key West as our last port. What are your favorite things to do there? We have never been and only have a week to plan !

We were there last May. Pretty little town. If you are not into drinking your face off, I would recommend renting a little electric buggy to tour the area. That way you can do stuff at your own pace. If / when we get back there we will be renting the buggy. If you go onto the internet and search Key West there are tourist links to get you in touch with businesses that rent the buggies. Have fun!

Great advice. That's what we did. We checked out the whole town and had a great time!

the Conch train is fun......walking around is fun.....get some key lime pie (they have it frozen, covered in chocolate, on a stick...but that's a little much!)

It's a fun little town........you can go to the southernmost point in the US, Ernest Hemmingway's house (with 5 or 6 toed cats!-you can probably google that!)

most people hit sloppy joes or margaritaville and get loaded!!!

make sure you get some conch fritters they are SOO good and fresh they have a little stand a different places around key west, they are worth it!

also dont forget to go to the blonde giraffe for some delicious key lime pie, u can even get it on a stick dipped in chocolate

they have a pirate museum that was cool, go to the southernmost point and its only 90 miles to cuba

This is what we are doing in Key West in August aboard the Conquest. http://www.trolleytours.com/Key-West/ it is a tour excursion offered by Carnival, but I booked it myself at a lower rate on line at the site provided. I've never done it before, so I can't give you any first hand advise, but it seems really nice and you can get on and off at your leisure.

You should really do a pub crawl- The Hog's Breath Saloon, Sloppy Joe's and Margaritaville are the recommended three not to miss.
Mel Fischer has a Museum there with lots of artifacts from shipwrecks and they have jewelry and coins for sale that have been retrieved from the ship, it is a very interesting place.
The Conch Train is your best bet- take a tour and then you'll have a good idea of the town, then you can make your way down Duval St and shop etc.

I was in Key West on the Freedom last week. I did the Old Town Trolley. It was a hoot! It is a hop on hop off type of tour so you pick and choose where you want to get off and then hop back on when you are done. It comes by every 30 minutes so you can get off at stop 4--Duval Street--and be in the heart of Duval St shopping. Margaritaville is literally a few shops away from the trolley stop. Fast Buck Freddy's is also very close to the trolley stop.

Mallory Square os so interesting! The aquarium doesn't look very big but it looks funky. There is so much to do it is hard to pick what you want to do and have time for all of it!!!

Here are some sites to help you plan.

www.furycat.com
www.visitkeywestonline.com
http://www.keywestwalkingtours.com/
www.piratesoul.com

I do not recommend booking through the cruise line for key west since most things are within walking distance and since you are likely departing from Florida, the time zone is the same as ship time.

A pub crawl is always the #1 popular thing to do in Key West.
20 or so fine drinking establishments within a 10 minute walk of the ship.

There is a Pirate museum, shipwreck museum ,art museum and aquarium all right at Mallory Square where you dock.

Truman's Little White House is just to your right when you dock.

Hemingway's House is just down the street (10 minute walk) from the pier.
The southermost point in the US is 5-10 minutes past that.

At the bottom of Duval St. (a block east of southermost point) is the southermost, house, hotel, etc...
Just north on Duval is the Butterfly Conservatory.
Just north of that is a ton of shops and all the various pubs, until you are back at the ship.

Key West is a great port, because there is so many varied things to do, all within a maximum, 20 minute walk from the ship.
