Default state-rooms to avoid

For future reference, stay away from aft/stern rooms on the Holiday. I had room U212, right between the engines and some winches or something that created commotion. My neighbors and I had trouble sleeping.
By the way, this is simply a friendly heads-up...I'm not complaining...nor do I require a personal apology from the president of the company.
Anyone else have any heads-up advice on staterooms to avoid ?

Yep, we once had 1456 on Glory (I'm sure it'd be the same on any Conquest class ship. Same problem as you had. Lots of engine and propulsion noise. Also, at one point, we had 2206 on Glory. (once again, same on other Conquest class ships) Great cabin in port, but when underway you REALLY heard the waves pounding the hull. Not nearly as bad as 1456, but still the lovely Mrs. Jones (Vita) couldn't sleep.

thanks for sharing the issues with 1456 andd 2206.
Next year I will have room 2216 on the Splendor across the hall from 2206.

I am booked on U167 on the Imagination. I won't have any issue sleeping. I am a chronic insomniac so I don't really sleep, though the noise may annoy me if I am too close to the engines. Anyone know where it is on this ship?

U-167 on Imagination is toward the stern, and WAY inside. Just aft of the stairwell. I'd bet it'll be a VERY QUIET stateroom, and probably very nice. It's, of course, on Upper deck, so you shouldn't have any issues with engine noise. I'll bet you really like this cabin!

Well, I am leaving in October, and already planning cruise #2. I am considering Royal Caribbean since they have a sale running on May 5th and 6th. You just have to book a cruise that leaves after August 9th, 2009 on one of those and they give you 50% off your deposit and a $200 On Board Credit. Not a bad deal if you ask me. I just know that due to my needs I will have to book on a line other than Carnival. Training reasons for cruise counselor certification.

U 167 should be a great location. You will be right close to the stairs and elevators. the activities will not too far, but far enough to be a quit room.

I wouldn't book any cabins on the 1st 2 floors close to the bow. I had 1215 on Valor and all night long you would here loud banging noises. We were told it was the water hitting the ship. It was really annoying and made it difficult to sleep.

I thought an inside would be immune from the waves hitting the hull, but NOOOOO,,,even a cabin or two away from the bow, it was really quite noisy. I couldn't believe the noise, until I heard it for myself. Like I said, it wasn't really a "cruise buster" for me, but the lovely Mrs. Jones (Vita) had a lot of trouble sleeping while we were underway. In any case, I won't accept a cabin that's within 5 cabins of either the bow, or the stern, on any of the lower decks.

This cabin is in the very front of the ship, you will most likely hear the anchors when pulling into port. This was the most noise and the most disturbing noise I have ever heard on a cruiseship. I was in cabin 2105 on the Destiny and every morning (6 am-ish) I would hear the the engines cut and the anchor being disengaged. It woke me up but living in NYC, I can block out noise and go back to sleep. But it was a noisy cabin. Very noisy and more than a little rocky.

You may want to look into selecting a different cabin if noise is an issue with you

Yeah, well, can't be any worse than me. I turn into the Cruising Comedy Club when I make my posts really late at night. Something about the fatigue and the night just makes me a bit loopy.

i try to avoid anything above the 6th level and anything that isnt mid ship...i prefer to stay on the lowest level that has a balcony, or the lowest level period if i do just a window. I dont get sea sick that way

I'm booked in R60 on the Fantasy....bottom deck, close to the middle of the ship side to side and fore and aft. I'm hoping that will be the best cabin to fight seasickness...and, hopefully, noise. A friend who was going with me and had to cancel out wanted to be up on the highest deck possible because of her fear of shipwreck.....no Titanic for her! I was afraid I would be sick as a dog up there.

Brad, I found the Ecstasy deck plans on the Carnival site to be a wonderful help.

R-60 is just about as close to the center of the ship as you can get, and as you stated, low deck. I'll bet you'll be just fine.
Have a GREAT cruise, and tell us all about it when you return.

I think sea sickness is all in your mind. If you dont think about the roll of the ship and just go with it youll br fine

Thanks for the kind words.
I'm sure you won't have any sickness problems, but if you want to be absolutely sure, go down to your local drugstore, and buy Bonine, or Meclizine. (Same stuff) You might want to take one at home before you sail, just to see if they make you sleepy, but I doubt they will. The lovely Mrs. Jones (Vita) takes one every morning on a cruise, whether she thinks she'll need it or not. That way, you don't have to worry about it at all. If you don't take any medication with you, and do start to feel queezy, you can go to the pursers desk, and they'll give you a sea sickness pill, free, but why go through that if you don't need to?
Have a GREAT cruise.

We don't care for the two lowest decks due to stairs and a back problem, but we do try to book midship on third or 4th deck from the bottom. Although some cabins are more desirable than others to experienced cruisers, there are really no BAD cabins on a cruise ship. ANY cabin is better than being at home and going to work every day. As far as the noise, that's when it pays off for me to be half deaf

We always get an inside cabin around the center of the ship. If we want to see the water or kick back in a lounge chair, we go up top and relax with a drink. Besides, I rather use the money we saved on our room for more drinks or cruise gifts. HAPPY CRUISING!!!

I usually lurk but I wanted to tell you I was in room 2218 on Splendor on Thanksgiving and we could def hear the waves hitting the ship. We were in an inside cabin. It was really loud. We also were just below the stage and could hear stomping noises all day. After a couple of DOD's this problem was recitified.

Oh oh, now you all have me worried about my cabin on the Conquest in Jan. I had read several reviews where people were very happy with their porthole cabins all the way forward (I'm in 1207), and there weren't many to choose from, so I booked it. Now I'm thinking I may not get any sleep at all there!

First of all, I think Pocono Pug must never have experienced sea sickness. My first cruise I was fine, and it was rough. However cruises since then have caused me a problem. I use the patch.

As far as cabin location goes, once we were directly above the stage, and it was quite noisy until after 11:00. Would be OK if you are night owls. This last cruise on the Splendor we had a balcony cabin just off the main elevators on Lido. Best room ever, I was concerned about hallway noise, but no problem.

Next cruise we have booked in the same location, but two decks below Lido. It was what was available. But Lido was great.
Happy Cruising
Barbara
