Default Carnival Legend to be Renamed.....

.....or perhaps rechristened as the Carnival SWINGER.

http://www2.tbo.com/content/2009/may...rnival-cruise/

I know Carnival has the "fun ships" but this is ridiculous.

Any group, large or small, can book enough cabins to make a given cruise "their" cruise. Since I love the Legend and my hubby, I was not happy to see this new twist. But, paying customers will always be accomodated. Money talks.
Different twist, on our honeymoon cruise (eons ago ), we found out that it had been promoted as a honeymoon cruise. We didn't know, it just fit our schedule and budget. But, almost the entire ship was taken up by couples who got married the same day we did!

From the perspective of a single man, this could be a good thing if singles were included, or not, depending on who was on board. It would be an interesting experience regardless.

If you read about this carefully they stated that the entire ship was booked by a group and they sold cabins... the only way to get a room was thru them and everyone on board knew what was going on... no families except all that were over 21 (maybe 18?). I don't think they could do a nudist trip any other way.
You would have known before hand about this trip... lol - WOW would that be surprise!

I think Carnival recently revised their policy. Up until recently, swinger groups and other alternative lifestyle groups were allowed to book blocks of cabins on cruises that was also open to the general public.

However Carnival and a few of the other mainstream cruiselines have taken a beating in the press when horrible stories of what went on during these blended cruises and what people's children and family members were exposed to and how many of the bars and venues were closed to passengers because of private functions.

If you do a search on some of the major cruise forum boards, you will find back as recently as a year ago, all kinds of stories of people who unknowingly booked cruises on ships dominated by a lifestyle group.

It go so bad that many people, including myself, took to compiling a list of the undesirable groups so as to do an internet search to be sure not to book a cruise on "that" ship, during "that" week.

I don't know the outcomes but I do know that Carnival has been sued a number of times because of the behavior of these groups on Carnival ships.

I guess Carnival has finally wised up.

I don't think that it is Carnival wising up. They don't choose to make a given cruise specific to any group. If the group buys out the ship, it becomes "that" kind of cruise.
This also happens on a smaller scale with less controversial groups. Like the jazz cruise. We love jazz, but there is a jazz group that buys out most of a ship every year. They have special guest entertainers, usually big names, but you can't go to see them unless you book through the jazz group. And, they charge a lot! More than Carnival brochure rates. There are also health and wellness cruises, big band cruises, etc., etc., along with the alternative lifestyle ones.
I do think that the cruise line has an obligation to let potential passengers booking individually know that a given cruise will be heavily oriented toward any specific group. Beyond that, I don't see how they bear the responsibiity, good or bad.

Joey, I am with you on that one. This would make the swine flu look attractive.
I wonder sometimes about these "Christian" cruises I hear about from time to time. What does that do to the alcohol sales? At least on a swingers cruise the booze should be flowing? Or, one would hope.

The Legend just did a fully booked nudist cruise the week before Valentine's this past year.

We had wanted to book that cruise for our 10th anniversary, but that week was absent from bookings since the nudists had it completely reserved.

We wound up docking next to them in Key West the first day. (we wound up on the Freedom) WE had a blast listening to the Legend's poor Captain having to keep making announcements that clothing must be worn while in port. (apparently they were flashing Key West from their balconies and the Key West authorities were getting on the Legend's crew.

Apparently either Tampa is the freaky deaky headquarters of the south, or there is just alot of "free living" people within a short drive of Tampa, as the Legend does seem to be the ship of choice.

The nudist freaks all "hang-out" in hillbilly land - Pasco County just north of Tampa.

Jay Herring has some interesting stories about a nude cruise in his Cruise Like a Master. It's a pamphlet about 20 pages long. There is a link for getting a free e-book under Cruise Line Suggestions. Look for "7 Tips" or something like that.

"hanky panky need a spanky party.''
What the heck ? ....never mind I don't want to know.
It will be interesting to converse with the crew after that trip The stories that they can tell.
Nudist and "swingers" sounds too nasty for my taste. Me sitting in that chair after bare bottoms...yuck

I honestly do not think you should judge an alternative lifestyle group any differently than you would a Christian group. Both groups have made lifestyle choices that work for them, and they should be respected. In the end, freedom is what this is about anyway.

Are you saying these people aren't Christians?

I think it is more that nobody wants to see fat naked people walking around the ship. I know I cover the mirror when I get out of the shower.

I honestly am surprised that Carnival wants to be associated with this type of cruise.

No. I could care less if they were Christian or not, since I personally am not. What I am saying is both choices are choices in lifestyle. Beliefs do influence lifestyle after all, and both alternative lifestyles and religious groups both have beliefs that influence how they live.

That would be an interesting cruise to be on...oh yes.....

I'll be on the Glory in Jan 2010 and there will be a rather large group of golfers on the ship. It seems they have a good portion of the trip booked for this golf golf golf and more damn golf cruise. No, that isn't the name, but it might as well be. Golfers are fanatical about their game, so go ahead you duffers, go nuts and swing that club!

I won't care of everyone but me and my friend are golfers. I just want to get to Hlaf Moon Cay!!!

Swingers though.....oh my...

Kind of puts a whole new twist on golf expressions such as:

1. Playing through......

2. Playing 18 holes today....

3. I'm playing the back 9.....

4. Tap it in for par....

5. A hole in one.....

Any others??

We were on a cruise last year where there was a group of 20 or 30 cross dressers. It was quite a shock at first to see these 6-foot 5, red haired, obviously male dressed in an evening gown. Actually, they turned out to be a lot of fun. Most were aboard with their wives, and were open to fun conversation. I'd sail again with them in a heart beat.

I don't think most of us are denying these people their "alternate lifestyle" though most of us also do not want to participate in a cruise with them. There are many theme cruises that each of us might seek to avoid. That is why they are theme cruises and focus on a particular grouping.

I think the cruise lines probably evaluate special requests and would have to determine whether the interested group need to charter the entire ship or now. For instance the "knitting cruise" is not likely to offend anybody, but a group requesting no alcohol sales would tick a lot of people off. Groups wanting to replace the cruise line entertainment with their own (a particular style of music) might be walking a fine line as well.
