Default Port time in Key West

Does anyone have a guess as to how much time we will spend in Key West? We have now officially been changed to Key West from Mexico. It is our only port stop out of Mobile. This port change is fine with us but we did a stop there once out of Jacksonville and it was rather short. I loved the town but hope we get to spend a little more time there.

At minimum 6 hours, but since there isn't a stop in Mexico it may be longer.

If you want any suggestions on what to do, I can provide you with some options.

Hey! My g/f and I just got back from this cruise yesterday morning. You will get to Key West around 730am...give or take 1/2 hour. You will be required to be back on board by 430pm.

If you want to go parasailing, don't go thru Carnival....walk down the right side pier (A & B???) till you see Get High Parasailing.......they have brochures and pics there...these 2 guys are the greatest! They will entertain the hell out of you......we did a double for $75 and then got video and pics (on a CD) for another $20...........well worth it. Their number is 305-292-5199. It only takes an hour or so out of the day, so plenty of time for other stuff.......not that Carnival offers much in the form of shore excursions.

Fury Cat does the parasailing for $35 per person, single or tandem.

Just booked the May 18 Holiday due to a GREAT deal and the itinerary says 6:00 am to 3:00 pm Key West and 6:00 am to 1:00 pm Freeport. Not very long in either port, but we have sailed so many times that we enjoy the ship as much as the port.

I suggest the old town trolley and you can hop on and hop off as many times as you want to explore the sights and museums along the way. You can book the old town trolley online at their website and save the trouble of booking and paying a few dollars a person more by booking online.

If you want a overview of the island then the Conch Train willdo, but it isn't a hop on hop off. You'd have to backtrack to the places you want to see.

Everything is very close and easy enough to walk. Mallory Square has shipwreck historeum, aquarium, art gallery (in custom house), and Mel Fischer museum all within a short walk (very short) away from each other!!! Sloppy Joes, Capt Tony's, Hogs Breath and other places are very close, perhaps a one or two block walk away.

I found the locals in Key West to be very friendly and willing to help a confused and somewhat disoriented cruise ship visitor!!!!!

Try conch fritters and frozen key lime pie on a stick (dipped on chocolate). It is to die for!!!

blue skies
I'm betting you had a 5 day cruise as opposed to my 4 day since you're going on to Freeport. We will do only Key West. It might be hard to know whether the time in port would be the same. I'm hoping we'll have more time in the afternoon.

There are some 4 day cruises that do 2 ports. My upcoming 4 day hits Key West and Cozumel.

Brad where are you sailing from? Those two ports seem awfully far apart to just be 4 days. What are the actual dates of your cruise?

I leave Miami on Oct. 26, arrive in Key West Oct. 27, Cozumel Oct. 28, Sea Day on Oct. 29 and get back on the morning of Oct. 30. Carnival lists it as a 4 Day. I will be on the Carnival Imagination(every time I hear the ships name the chorus of the old Temptations song runs through my head).

For the Imagination cruise only 6 1/2 hours in port. Only good for one excursion or a walk in town.

I'm able to fit in 3 excursions(Pirate Soul Museum, Parasailing, Taste of Key West), independently arranged but I don't know if I will do the Taste of Key West or just find a place to eat on my own, before heading back to the ship.
