My group has a booked cruise on Imagination departing June 1, 09. With the hype about swine flu we're received a revised itinerary from Carnival that states that Mexico will now be replaced with Nassau.
Personally, I'm dissapointed a bit because I've been to both Mexico and Nassau on past cruises (and Nassau is not a place that I enjoyed in the least) but I understand the necessity for the cruise line to help ensure the safety of their passengers (although I personally feel that we have a stronger chance of catching the flu in an airport / on the plane or cohabitating with 2,000 guests on a ship for a few days.)
I do, however, have a few questions regarding the itinerary change...
1) on at least one message board I've read that Carnival is giving on-board credits to those cruisers who agree to continue on with their current booked trip despite the itinerary change. Does anyone know if this is indeed the case? We don't want to postpone the trip b/c of vacation time, airfare, rental car, and hotel reservations that are already prepaid. If Carnival does offer a credit, any idea of what to expect (approx.)?
2) Is there a possibility that Carnival will revoke the current itinerary sailing us to Nassau instead of Mexico? For example, what if in the next three-four weeks the swine flu eases up and is no longer an issue for Mexican tourists....
3) I've also read on a cruise board that Carnival is also refunding a portion of the original cruise price because of the itinerary change (for those who still plan to take part in the cruise despite itinerary changes). Does anyone know if this is true?
That's all I have for now; any advice or even heresay will be appreciated!
