Tomahawk, how did you get that fireworks thing showing the countdown to your next cruise? It is so cool! I adore fireworks...I'm actively and apprehensively working on a pyrotechnician's license (apprehensively because I learn hands-on and technical stuff slowly...not because I'm scared of "flowers of fire"!)....and I would love to have one under my posts.
Take care...

Of course pyrotechnics is so much more than just fireworks. It can be for explosions on a film set as well.

I read the other day on the passport page that the government puts on the internet that it takes approx. 3-4 weeks to receive your passport... BUT, in the event that you apply for your passport and you do NOT receive it before your trip, you can go to their website and check the status of your passport application... You may read that it's being processed, mailed, or not showing up at all yet... Either way, you can officially print off the official page with your status and take it along with you and for now the Passport Police will accept the status page, showing that you've applied but the government hasn't met their end of the bargain just yet... and they will approve you with that document.

If you want to search for this info, go to Google and search for Department for Homeland Security and then from there search for passport requirements... Read any FAQ's or questions about your situation.

Good luck.... but you make a short answer to your question, your family member, if she applies now, should receive her passport in time for an August cruise!!

Yes, indeed. At my first course on the way to certification, I met a man who has worked in pyrotechnics in films for years. The passion sparklered in his eyes as he described all of the things he had to do to fix up a car to explode in a film. I asked him if he was ever scared doing that, and I think what he said was "a little bit" when he was fixing up either a liquid or gaseous gas line into the car. I was awestruck at his experience.

I shouldn't be giving away trade secrets, but the majority of pyrotechnics in films really are harmless. Mostly a bunch of flash and smoke. I am not interested in creating effects as much as the writing, the acting, and actually making the film, personally speaking.

I would think it should take about 6 weeks now. My brother does them for the post office and he told me recently one of his customers got theirs within a few weeks. If you're going to the Caribbean I believe Carnival's website says you can still cruise with birth certificate and photo ID

The birth certificate and photo id is only valid for land and sea travel and requires a roundtrip from and to the same port. I would be quicker to rely on a passport book because of that slim chance of an emergency flight being required. A slim chance is still a chance after all.
