Over the top, or just right?

We all know Carnival has always had, a lively over the top, Las Vegas style decor. A few years ago, Paul and I had an interview with Joe Farcus, the man behind the the vison of the fleet. I have to say, while many may not appreciate his sensibilty, I think he is quite talented, and just the ability to tackle this job, amazes me....

So my question is....would you like to see the Carnival interiors change to perhaps a more low key style, or do you appreciate the livleyness of the public spaces, and want Joe to keep on, keepin on?

Keep them coming :D After all this is a "Fun Ship" cruise line.

I've only cruised on Carnival Glory and that interior was just fine, not too loud at all.

i LOVE the decor on Carnival. the Conquest class ships are my favorite :)

I forget where I was on the Conquest, but I saw areas, above an elevator area, that was intricately painted, that could have just been painted a solid color, but they took the time to embellish even places that many never even see...

I prefer a slightly more subdued decor, such as HAL has. But, I have seen some beautiful and unusual art built into walls on Carnival. Being an art junkie, if I can't have the real deal, as on HAL, I'll take the alternative. The only decor I really disliked was on NCL Dawn. Loved it overall, but the carpet colors made me nauseous.

I have never found the Carnival decors to be a problem. I’ve enjoyed most and actually found some subdued compared to others. I like the themes but am also glad that the theme is subtle in most cases and the spaces are decorated to suit the space more than the theme. I do wish the cabins had a little more variety or color. The same orange/peach color gets annoying after a while.

I think the later ships are lovely. The Spirit Class is really nice. I loved the Pride with it's Renaissance themes and Spirit with it's rich coppery tones. In the Conquest class I thought Liberty was really well done using Mediterranean decor and wrought iron in the light fixtures. Carnival Glory was very colorful but not garish at all. Joe Farcus has mellowed over the years and it has showed in the ships. Still imaginative without he circus of the past.

I hear a lot of negative comments about the loud decor on Carnival - but I never noticed it. I say keep going the way its going....why fix it if it aint broke? :D

The only ship I sense he was smoking something funny was when he designed the interior of the Valor. The ship is too American in decor--red, whit,e and blue everywhere. I am Canadian and it was way over the top. After a couple of days I got past it, but still it was too much...

As for most of the ships he has done, I think he is brilliant!!!

I have no complaints regarding the interior decorating/designs of the ships. However, there was one ship (can't remember which one) but the theme was really nice but then when you got the casino it changed to an Asian theme - I didn't quite understand - it was different and after a couple of days I got use to it.

Joe does a great job so I hope it keeps the ideas coming!

American themes are the best. As Canadians you should appreciate the US keeping your economy alive. You are also protected by our borders. Canada has lots of waterways. Maybe you would prefer the Maid of the Mist and leave the good ole' USA to us patriots.

Briguy,

A little harsh don't you think :( Everybody is entitled their own opinion!

Carnivals decor is just fine. If you want subdued go to Celebrity, a funeral home has more pizazz.

Actually, our economy is not quite as deep in the toilet as yours. In fact, on a personal note, the Canadian arm of the American company I work for is providing the only positive financial numbers this year, and is surpassing our budget targets, while the American offices are 30-40% behind there own targets.

Our banking system is very stable, the Canadian dollar is going to be back at par by the fall because of weakness of American currency, housing starts are rebounding, and personal bankruptcies and mortgage foreclosures are way down.

No bailouts necessary in Canada except for the auto industry.

Unemployment is still up over last years numbers, but nowhere near what is was since the last market correction in the 1990's.

You should get your news from somewhere other than Fox, or CNN for a more balanced view of the world.

I like Canada actually myself, and I was just commenting on the Valor theme but the poster has ripped on the American theme of that ship before. Harsh or not my guess is the poster wouldnt have complained if it was an all English or French renaissance. America has Canada's back anytime during a war so I take it a little personal thats all.

Farcus really went all-out on the Conquest. It is amazing and I think one of his favorites, at least he told me so. I emailed him once with a question about a specific part of the design in the dining room and he was very kind and emailed me back with the answer. Very nice man.

Yes the Conquest has lots of hidden architectural treasures.

I like over the top. I love Las Vegas and the Carnival ships make me thinking of that. I was perfer the designer take a risk and make it flashy then the same old beige walls. I loved the Freedom all these different color "War of the Worlds" light blubs were fun. I can't wait to see the Splendor you go Joe Farcus.
